Jindal Takes Credit, Presents Constituents With Giant Stimulus Checks!

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal has been very vocal against the stimulus and had threatened to refuse to accept any of the funds for his hard hit state. He even recently wrote an op-ed for Politico where he slammed the efforts to reform health care and declared the Recovery Act “a nearly trillion-dollar stimulus that has not stimulated.” He didn't mention in that op-ed that less than 24 hours earlier he had traveled to Anacoco, Louisiana to present a jumbo-sized check to residents of Vernon Parish. The funds included hundreds of thousands of dollars directly from the Recovery Act — at least $157,848 in Community Block Grant money authorized by the Recovery Act and $138,611 for Byrne/JAG job training programs created by the Recovery Act. Rather than credit the federal government or the Recovery Act he opposed, Jindal printed his own name on the corner of the massive check. View it below: http://thinkprogress.org/2009/07/21/jindal-stimulus-check/ Am I wrong to think this is just a TAD hypocritical? Annie

I don't think he will be the hypocritical. There are several other Republicans who will evently accept stimulus money. I wonder what the people of Louisiana think about this. Do you think they will be able to figure out what he's done. They will probably wonder where he got the money to attach his name to the check and how all of this came about.

Don't worry Iris. You don't need to get it right because it just isn't true. Check my response below to see how I debunked the lies Annie helped to spread. This is yet another example of why you can't trust a blog. You'll also notice we're getting nothing but crickets from Annie since she's been proven wrong.

I would say that it's more than just a tad hypocritical, anniepa. To me this sounds like a case of Jindal hating the player but not the game. Maybe he thought that by giving the impression that the money was coming directly from him it would boost his ratings, as I hear that he aspires to the presidency in the near future.

Actually he's not being hypocritical at all. The only funds he didn't want were for the unemployment expansion because it would require changes state laws and raising taxes on businesses. You have to watch out for Annie. She's given up on reliable news sources and only uses left-wing hate blogs now. You can't trust anything those bloggers write.

I'm not even going to waste my time arguing until you can find a source to confirm any of this. Everyone with half a brain knows that blogs, especially left wing hate blogs, are filled with lies and can't even be trusted to tell you what time it is.

I couldn't help myself. I just HAD to thoroughly research this so I could continue to expose your precious blogs for the liars that they are. Bobby Jindal NEVER "threatened to refuse to accept any of the funds for his hard hit state." That's a lie and I challenge you to find where he said that. What he really said was "We'll have to review each program, each new dollar to make sure that we understand what are the conditions, what are the strings and see whether it's beneficial for Louisiana to use those dollars," http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/02/17/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry4807323.shtml?CMP=OTC-RSSFeed&source=RSS&attr=PoliticalHotsheet_4807323 As for what he was against, he made it abundantly clear that "he would not accept money to expand eligibility for unemployment because it would increase employer taxes." http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/23/us/politics/23governors.html "Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced that the state will not change its law to use a part of the $787 billion federal stimulus bill that would result in an unemployment insurance tax increase on Louisiana businesses. " http://politics.theatlantic.com/2009/02/jindals_stimulus_stand_wont_take_unemployment_benefits_from_fed.php "Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced Friday that he will decline stimulus money specifically targeted at expanding state unemployment insurance coverage, becoming the first state executive to officially refuse any part of the federal government’s payout to states." “Subject to learning more, my position is that Mississippi won’t accept funds that require us to have a tax increase later, because [they would force] us to change our rules for qualifying for unemployment compensation,” he said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20090220/pl_politico/19092 The simple fact is, Jindal fully supported shovel ready projects. He never opposed such a thing in Louisiana and never even considered denying funds for such. He was opposed to the unemployment expansion because it would require changes to Louisiana's state laws regarding unemployment and raise taxes for businesses. There you go Annie. PROOF from REAL sources. Go ahead now. Prove me wrong. Back up your claims. See if you can find something that isn't a left wing hate blog to support the lies on thinkprogress.

I think he wanted to please both parties that were for and against the bill. Then he wanted to have the recognition all to himself. there is a reason why people do what they do.

Yes that is hypocritical. Sounds like a politician who doesn't care for the government so much, unless the praise comes out in his own favor.
