This might be demonstration of their willingness to live a simple life, but they can involve in much more meaningful ways to help people come out of difficulty.

Lots of people grow gardens. I'm glad they are having fun with it, but I would NEVER call living in the white house and having children go to private school and jetting around the world as "living the simple life".

It's quite a good example, and excellent public relations when we see the children from impoverished neighborhoods going into the garden to plant, care for and eat the vegetables. Every little bit helps, and for those children, it's often ore than just a small thing.
