High school...a great experience or worst moments of your life? | | Hi myLotters, I know that when we were (or are) a teenager, we still searching for our true identity and many of us may have found difficulties adjusting ourselves into the society. Many people having high points in their high schools, maybe especially the popular ones, but after that life went downhill from there? Or maybe it was the worst moments, always bullied by other students, considered as a weird person and you just want to left all those moments and starting a new life afterward. Or is it just unmemorable for you cause you just perceived it as a stage of life which you go through it, but nothing special happened at the time? For me, I was enjoying my high school moments a lot. A lot of partying, great friends, good grades, and most of all, when I was at 12th grade, I was placed in a class whose all of my classmates help me a lot in finding my true self and lift my self esteem. We even having this trip to a city, where we rent a cottage and at that meeting, each of us must give honest opinion what is our strength and weakness, so we all can reflect ourselves and being a better person. So, share your opinion here! Which types were you in high school? Is it great or pain in the a** moments?

I didn't have a lot of friends, but the friends I did have were awesome. I didn't belong to any particular group. I surely wasn't popular but because I had a twin, and my school had less than 1000 students, practically the whole senior class who knew we were. We didn't have sports, so Friday night football games didn't happen. I didn't go to prom. I wish I had a different high school experience, though I seemed to have learned a lot more now that I am out of high school (been almost 6 years!) than I actually learned in class.

sophisticated_boy (533) | 5 months ago | I finished my high school in 2004, so it seems we're about the same age texas..I started high school with a little bit pessimistic actually, not going to the school I want, instead going to my second choice, a Catholic school which quite well known because many rich people go there to study...I initially think, geez I'm a middle class boy and surrounded by (mainly) people who were richer than me can be a little pressure. You have to adjust to their lifestyle, like gping to the mall almost every weekend, spending their money and get bigger allowance from their parents. But in the end, I learn that although some of them are very very rich, you cannot perceived them as a spoiled people. Many of them have brains and a hard worker, but they also can play hard. I am not a sport guy or anything (in fact I hate sports lol), but I was quite well known as a talkative person and thankfully smart enough to get good grades. I enjoy every party they did, in the end until now my best friends are all from my high school. Your school has less than 1000 people? By 1000 you mean only high school or from primary? Does all the teen movies reflect how US schools is? I mean there are groupings here and there, bullyings and all those stuff? In my country it does not seem that bad, that's why I am very interested in US schools, seems to me it's more dynamic

I had middle points in high school and I played a lot!! So, to me, high school life was enjoyable. However, I have to study some subject I don't like and face to someone I hate. Life always combine with half happiness and half pain.

sophisticated_boy (533) | 5 months ago | I agree. In my country high school always related to grades, it's rarely related to extracurricular or social activities which can build our EQ, emotional quotent. There are also too many subjects too in high school. My friend once said in other countries, students only study several subjects (even my friends said less than five!) which really is their interest pursuing in the future. It's really a lot amount of books, which is very tough for many students, but I think if we could cope with like you said, it's not always be pain, but I found a true happiness in it. Thanks for the response!

| sarafii74 (82) | 5 months ago | Some good teachers (or some good parents) will encourage you to attend extracurricular activities. Cuz what we learn from school is the skill of self-learing, that's all!
The most important skill we should learn is Communication skill! and this skill can only be leart from society. I will push my kids to contact with society and not just focus on the points of school.

|
sophisticated_boy (533) | 5 months ago | Agree with you! I am lucky I was given an opportunity to be a host of a big school event and trained by professional entertainer, that's how I learn communication skill and boost my confidence. But my friends, poor them, even until graduating uni didn't know how to socialize, doing good presentation, and have low self esteem of themselves. It must be realized by today's education that later on their life, communication skill is the most important card to play in work environment, and it must be taught since they are still a little kid.

|
| sarafii74 (82) | 5 months ago | Lucky you! I used to think that the only important thing in my high school life was the points. Cus all the teachers and parents are just focusing on the high points' students, and students themselves also, comparing with each others' point.
However, when we start to connect with society, the so-call best students in the class seem never be the best one in society. So, now I am thinking how I can teach my future children to learn communication skill more than just focus on textbook. Fortunately, my boyfriend is excellent on communication skill, and sometimes he teaches me as well.

sophisticated_boy (533) | 5 months ago | Well, many of us did that in the past and we cannot turn back time to fix it right? I think we all can learn by mistakes we did. Just do our best in the future, and hopefully all of our mistakes will be erased by our success:) Happy myLotting, thanks for the response

| | 4. shankarbaddi (475) | 5 months ago | My high school experience was too great. Before when i was in school i use to think when will i get out from the school life and join the college life because in college life we had total freedom i use to think in such a way. But i realized the school days were so rocking and enjoying really miss them. Specially the teachers who took a lot of care for us and to make us our future secure. They were very dedicated with the work and taught us with all the available information even though it was not in our syllabus as they wanted us to be aware about everything that we should me. We were like clay mud and they moulded us and gave a good shape to look good. Those days were really enjoying.

sophisticated_boy (533) | 5 months ago | College is definetely different than school. Yes, it offers freedom which I don't have during high school because there were teachers watching us, but at the same time it also made individuality, people only think about themselves, they start really2 ambitious, and not caring for others. I believe in stricter rules and regulations, people tend to stay close an lookout for each other and although maybe you found the teachers annoying person, they actually care about us and think about it now they are really people who mold us into what we are now, they give me a lesson about discipline and hard work. Teachers really are a hero which we are easily to forget, sad but true..Thanks for the response!

| | | 5. icenjelrocks (61) | 5 months ago | I had a great highschool experience, apart fom the torture (real mental, psychological and emotional torture, they singly picked on me out of 80 students in one section) from some 2 or three teachers, it was great. My friends made the tortures bearable, I tend to forget that there are sadist teachers there, and I really had an enjoyable days back then. I even got the highest academic awards (I almost didn't, the sadist teachers tried to sabotage the results to kick me out of the top). So, well, I got the balance of the Yin and the Yang in high school.

sophisticated_boy (533) | 5 months ago | Hey, congrats for you for achieving highest grades in school. I never been the highest but I am sure if they made a top 10 list, I will be there:) I also suffer the same thing, quite smart but in terms of behavior,I'm not like the nerd people lol. I do a lot of talks at class, and lots of arguing with teachers. There are so many weird teachers in my high school, there are smart teacher but they just don't know how to teach. We even have a teacher which bullied by us cause it's his first time teaching, must be a nightmare for him. Thanks for the response. Happy myLotting!
| |
|
|
| icenjelrocks (61) | 5 months ago | wow, in our case, new teachers are not the bullies, though we can be the ones to do the bullying. LOL. Yeah, I'm not the nerd type, I don't really bury myself studying, maybe that's why I need to reform my study habits now, as lessons gets way out of hand. Thanks!

| | 7. dex1007 (306) | 5 months ago | I guess it was my luck that i went to two different high schools. the first one was pretty hard on me, i had some nasty friends with bad grades, later on i moved onto the smarter class and those old friends were no longer friends, i could never fit with the smart kids. But then i went to another school, (my parents traveled a lot), and in there it was way better than the first. maybe because i was slightly older then, and knew how to handle stuff. maybe because i was accepted by my classmates more, since they didn't know a lot about me. I don't know. but if it wasn't for the second high school, i'd say my high school life was pretty bad. slightly older i was given more responsibilities, positions, jobs. it was a good personality building experience. everything happens for a reason i guess. if i hadn't been a loser in my old school, i might have been mean to others, i might not have appreciate stuff more. it made me the person i am now. good question.

sophisticated_boy (533) | 5 months ago | I go to different schools for primary, secondary and high, and I think I'm lucky to have that experience. I don't like primary at all, being bullied and not knowing who I was at the time. At secondary, I started to fit in and know my group, but I have a certain great experience which boost my confidence right away which carries away until my high school. As you said, being in a new school allowed you to start on a clean sheet, which means people doesn't know who you are before, and it's even nicer if this people are very supportive for a newcomer. Thanks for the response

Really wish could go back there, but think about that again, I won't change a thing. Looking through all the photos taken there still made me laugh. Thanks for the response!
