Is it okay for kid 5 years old learn to use internet?

I don't think it would be good to let kids use the internet at a young age.
For instant there are heaps of pornographic pop up ads that comes up at random times, in random sites, it would be hard to filter them out, even if you use things like opendns or router to block sites, there will always be new sites available. And there alot of stuff on the internet you do not want to know about as well.
But it would be good to have them supervised or have their computers monitored.

I think if an adult sits next to a kid that might be 5 years old and let them know right from wrong and how to use the internet and let them know what they shouldnt be doing and what they can click on. Clicking on some things might get you a virus and be bad for your computer, so showing them the right from wrong when using the internet might be a good thing because when they get into school they might be doing research papers and might need information from their internet to do so and then when the time comes they wont know how to use it unless an adult has showed them in their past.

I believe it is important to show them young so they can grow with it and learn new things when they are by themselves using the internet.

I am also disagree bcoz younger child whose age is near about 5 will not learn more from computer .His mind should go to play games.And now a days lots of bad things are availabel in the net also .So we should not allow to child use Internet

Its really amazing that children of five years old are using computer and i cant just believe it is it really true.Its a good thing to stay in touch of technology but five years old is too much short time to face internet so i think its not of at all.Thanks.

I think the environment surrounding us is enabling to have better and quicker growth of children.Its perfectly alright to have a 5 yr old to be able to access computer.Happy mylotting

no, i dont think they should because the internet saps the kids of any sort of imagination. plus, there is a lot of garbage on the internet so i think they should be allowed to go on for a short period per day (say a half an hour) and only allowed on certain sites.

Personally I do not have a problem with kids that young using the internet as long as there is a parent there with them at all times. After all there are quite a few interactive websites out there specifically for younger kids to help them learn.

I think it is okay for a 5 year old to use the internet if they are going to age appropriate sites. My daughter was in kindergarten this past year and they had computer lab. They got to go to a site online called fun brain. it has games and stuff geared towards learning. I think as long as you are watching what your child does online that it can be a good thing. There is so much knowledge available online. I would also advise them about the dangers of the internet. The no talking to strangers that we used to be taught as kids still can be applied to the internet.

In this computer age, the sooner someone gets used to the internet the better. The internet can be a substitute for parenting cause everything is on the internet. The internet would make a child learn how to read and to learn all about humankind.
by the time the child reaches 15, they would be a computer wizz and could become a dot.com millionaire.
This would cost nothing, cause net access is so cheap now. Also, it would sort out the problem of dealing with those pesky kids.

I feel the same. The children are smarter than before. My child is five years old now, in fact he started to use computer when he was little. That's because we have several laptops and computers at home. It is easier for him to get in touch with these. I think learning the computer is important. But I don't think it's very good to learn it so much. The children still have to paint by the pencils and crayons more than computer. It is better for them to use hands. Besides, facing computer for a long time is harmful for the eyesight. So I don't allow my child to use the computer for a long time. I prefer him to have some activities rather than facing the computer.
