Forrest Gump II – "Gump & Co"

A few years back I remember hearing many rumours about a sequel to Forrest Gump and that Eric Roth who wrote the screenplay for the first was working on a screenplay for the second. If I remember rightly it was going to be based on the follow up book by author Winston Groom who wrote the original novel which Forrest Gump was based upon. But nothing seems to have come of this and rumours have seem to run dry.
So has anyone heard anymore on whether a sequel will be going ahead or has as I feel it's been put on the back burner yet again?

This is the first time I've heard of any such rumors. I must say I hope they are only rumors. Forrest Gump is one movie that is best left alone. It is definitely one of the best movies I've ever seen and I'm afraid that any attempt to make a sequel would be disastrous since I believe it would pale in comparison to the original. There aren't really any questions, in my opinion, that have risen from the movie that would justify the need for a follow-up film. Forrest Gump is a masterpiece and it doesn't need a sequel.

I sort of agree, it is one movie which I would say doesn't need a sequel but having read the synopsis for the book that it's based on it could be quite good, especially if it follows in the same manner as the first.
This is a quick synopsis from Amazon as to what "Gump & Co" the book is all about - The sequel to "Forrest Gump". The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company has gone bust and Forrest is broke, sweeping floors in a strip joint, to support his son. The chance to play championship football comes his way once again, and Forrest is back in the money. However, his adventures have only just begun.

Hmmm.. This sure seems to be a rumor alright as I have not heard about this.
I wish it were true though.Gosh, do you have any idea if the book is out? I would love to read the book at least.

Hi cbeee3, the book has been out for a while and is available on Amazon, if you look at my response above you will be able to see the synopsis for the book.
Funnily enough I just went onto IMDB and "Gump & Co" the movie is listed as being in pre-production so I would reckon there is some truth to the rumours, just a lack of information as to whether or not anything is being done at the moment.

Wow! I just read the synopsis you picked up from Amazon for the book.It sure looks like an interesting story. I would love to see the movie when it is out. I am a huge Tom Hanks fan. I sure hope he still plays Forrest's character in the movie. Will check IMDB. Thanks for this discussion!

Sorry, I never heard anything about it. I remember seeing the original Forrest Gump in theaters though. I brought my foster mom for her birthday. She's passed now so if they do make a sequel she'll never see it

that would be so nice. tom hanks could still play the older forrest
i didnt know there was another book. i should look that up i guess. i do read. it is aggravating when rumors like that go around. you wait and wait and it never happens they said once, johnny depp was going to play in a renewal of Dark Shadows. a soap from the 60's but heard no more about it after 3 yrs waiting.

no i never heard rumors of a sequel but did you say that he wrote a book sequel? if so why don't you just read that? and i don't know what forest gump 2 would be about if they had it. i thought the ending was just great a really awesome movie i hope to see it again soon. i forgot all about this movie. well thanks for sharing and have a happy mylot day.

Unfortunately I am not a fan of reading, prefering to watch movies instead. The purpose of this discussion was to find out if anyone had heard anymore rumours as to if the sequel will get made, not so much as to what the sequel would be about, but many thanks for your contribution and I am glad you enjoyed the first movie, it's one of my favourites.
