Just for sh!ts and Grins the other day I logged into Gateway, to see what if any my old computer system would be worth to trade in; Well my answer was " NO TRADE IN VALUE " That's exactly the answer I was expecting too...LOL! I can't complain I really really should NOT complain as my computer system is now 10+ years old and its been a great one; I've used it to death all these past 10 years, I'm on my third keyboard I don't know how many mouses, I've gone through...two scanner's and many modems...oh yeah and two monitor's..(G)! I spent over $3000.00 when I got this system too you'd think they'd give me something for the dang thing but no...its worth NADA to them! she's on her last leg I have so much trouble with this thing daily just trying to get it to boot up is a pain...then fighting with dial up and getting knocked offline so many times the last two months; It sucks it sucks it sucks...... I'm looking around at places that do the "Rent to own" that's the only way I'm gonna be able to either get a laptop or a new CPU... How long has your computer system lasted you???

Do not do rent-to-own, however tempting. I can't afford it and my income is more than yours. Check this out. It might be just what you need. http://columbiamo.craigslist.org/sys/1295097431.html

And, if you've been using the same computer for 10 years, then there is no "thanks for nothing" about it. You got a BEAST of a computer!!!! That's like a dinosaur and it's still working!!! You got your money's worth, believe me!!

I tried to get commodities here for Mom, but those azzholes wouldn't even return my call - and it was a state agency who referred me!!! I called so many times. I always liked what I got - I loved the cheese and the canned pork, back when I was eligible for it. I made chili verde with the pork.

Hey Girlfriend aka My ( deputy dog), that's a hell of a deal listed there on craigslist, I sent them an email about it, to see if they had anything by the time I get paid, then I'd try and drive down there to have a look and buy something for that price..sh!t!!{{MANY THANKS}} well like I said when I posted this I should NOT complain as it has lasted me since I bought it in 1999... I still "hope" to get something "new" someday like a laptop I really really want a laptop, I'm so sick and tired of NOT having things you know?I know you know what I'm talking about...and for me the only way I'd be able to get it is to do that rent to own thing...I've not done that for many many years... I have found some pretty good online sites that has lower payments than most places around my town or in Columbia...??? who knows???I know its a pipe dream... I have to have "something" in my miserable life to live for right? Right now I'm on this diet which I hate its called the "no money diet"ever hear of it? HA!I even went to get commodities on MOnday, down at the food pantry I'VE NOT DONE THAT IN YEARS since I first went on disability.. I tell you what, the stuff they give out here is just a JOKE..I MEAN ITS A JOKE NOW...I know I'm a picky a$$ eater but it was a waste of my time standing out in that god awful long line in the sun for the crap I had to drag home with me...really really sad... I'd write to you what I got but I really don't even want to talk about it you know?I'M HUNGRY!! I WANT MEAT DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!Thankfully my friend Shirley is bringing me some eggs tomorrow, I'm out of them too!! Come on payday!!!

I have had mine for about 3 1/2 years, I bought it used. I don't know how old it is. Its a Dell and still works good. I can tell it is getting old, it has slowed down some but overall I am still happy with it. This has been my first computer so to me its perfect. Before getting this computer I didn't know anything about computers, most things I have learned on my own. Good luck I hope you can get a new one.

Wow, you had your computer for a long time. My first computer only lasted me about 5 years and I took it back for repairs and it worked even worse, because it still had a few days to the warranty. Then I had one from about 2005-2009. That one only lasted four years and three years in, I had to get a new hard drive. Those were desktops. A compact and a dell. I like Dell better. I've had my Dell Laptop since 2008. I hope it lasts me two more years. It's been going strong, but I get nervous. Computers don't tend to last long. However, it maybe be because I use them a lot.

hey wassup dreamweaverjan! i'm using an assembled pc. i bought it from a certain store that assembles pc so it ain't branded. i can tell you the specs though. i'm running and AMD Athlon with a 256mb memory and a redfox motherboard. it's a little slow compared to newer computers but it's working just fine. this computer has served me for a good 5 years and all the parts are still working. i've changed the mouse once though. i think it's pretty durable considering that it was just assembled. i think this computer can still serve me for 5 years more. i do have to upgrade the memory though. i'm planning to buy a 512mb memory soon.

Hi Tomjoad: Oh I agree, I have a lot of friends who have used different parts and stuff and assembled their own very fast and high powered computers; Nothing wrong with that; (G)!! I too will be saving it all and using what I want out of it for whatever I happen to buy next; A lot of people make that mistake of just throwing stuff out when there are things you can easily use to build your own "masterpiece".. Good luck and I hope yours continues to hold out for you;

Unfortunately that's the way things are. One can spend a small fortune for any major electronics and it's not worth squat later on. Take my Nikkormat EL-W 35mm camera that I got way back in 1977...yes, its THAT old and still in prime working order--I bought that camera with some other "goodies" with it, like autowinder, few lenses, etc..it too was worth about $3,000 new...know it's value now?---$84.00 Well as far as my computer it's only two and a half years old and just did a quick look at how much they are worth...mine predates the newer ones that came out last year ....not bad...the cost to buy new would be still about the same I paid...so I guess it's value hasn't gone down too much...as for being used...mmmm there I might lose out and might only be worth half

Hey, My computer system has lasted me about 2 years so far. Not that long since I only recently bought it, and don't really use intensive CPU tasks such as playing games or watching HD movies. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

Wow, you have had your computer for 10 years...that is unbelievable! I wish I could have a computer for that long. Mine either burn out or run so slowly, I have no choice but to buy another computer. Good luck getting another computer. Have a great day.

Hi Jan! I'm sorry you are having so many problems. I got this computer in February of this year and it's still doing well. My printer has run out of black ink, though. I can't believe it has run out of ink so fast. I didn't think I had used it that much. I have gone through two modems already. They both got struck by lightning because I didn't think to unplug them when we had a couple of storms a while back. I never had to worry about this with my old computer. I had dial up back then, though, and now, I have fast access DSL. This might make a difference. Kathy.
