Does your family have "family reunions?"

In the US, it is quite common for entire extended families to gather together once each year for a big "family reunion." In our family, we do this usually as a huge potluck picnic and outdoor games and conversation in the summer time. It is also common that we each bring along photos to show others. Does your family do something simialar each year? If so, what are your traditions?

it usually happens during Christmas eve. everyone brings food and gifts and gather at my parent's house. its the most noisy yet fun event all the time with all the kids, the nieces, nephews and the grandchildren. best part is the games, the giving of gifts and the opening. swell way to spend Christmas. what time of the year do you usually hold reunions? ann

Hello Ann. What joyous Christmas's you all must have! That is when our very large family gathers. With all the extended family, we have a big picnic in July or August. So many great memories created through the years. Karen

We used to have a really huge family and all got together at least once a year. Then we'd have a gigantic family reunion every couple of years with members coming in from all over the U.S. Now there's not that many left in the family, everybody was so much older and sadly they've all passed. So, we haven't really had a reunion in about 10 years now. I used to cherish those times when we'd all get together. We did pot luck too, and share our home movies and pictures and such. Our family has a farm, so we'd almost always bring down a horse or two for riding around the yard, or back in the woods. Gee, just remembering has me all nostalgic lol.

Hi Joyful...those sound like wonderful times! Many of my older relatives have passed on, too, and yes...I miss them so much. For a long time in our youth, things seem so "permanent," but as we keep maturing, so many changes occur. It is good to make memories as we go, to look back on through the years. Karen

We have frequent family reunions on festivals, birthdays, and other occasions. For single child family, family reunions help the children ease the feeling of loneliness at home. And they learn communication, sharing, caring among family members. More important, the reunions become happy events for our Mom. We like to see her feeling happy about being big star in the family.

Hello Jhuhu...how nice that your family gets together often. Yes, it would be wonderful for the family's children to play together, and here, our elders are also often pay homage as "honored guests" at weddings and other gatherings. They have earned that! Karen
