Have you ever taken an online class? |
|
I have been considering taking an online class or two and was wondering how many here have. If not..have you ever considered it? I think it would be great to be able to further your education with the time you have extra to do it but I wonder if it is easier or harder. There isn't anyone that can guide you if you get stuck on something..or is there?

JenInTN (3770) | 6 months ago | Thank you very much for the advice. It's true that some classes are not even recognized depending on the "institution" That's providing the course. My company will actually pay a certain amount of my tuition so they may actually have a list of institutions that they recognize as being legit. I do worry that there is not enough interaction but like you say, I have heard there are online study groups with some of the courses.

2. sybil02 (152) | 6 months ago | I'm also considering taking up online class but most of the website that I try to look at was only for tutorial. I thought at first it was easy but after sometime it started to get boring and in the long run you stop with the tutorial, much more if no one is assisting you with your learning, I think that's the downside of it. I'm still looking for a real online one on one learning bcoz in that way you will be more eager to attend your class. happy mylotting

JenInTN (3770) | 6 months ago | Hi sybil! I can see what your saying about it maybe seeming like a tutorial versus a real class. I think there are some local universities that offer some of their classes online. Maybe checking on some of your local college websites may give you some insight on online classes too. Thanks for the response.

3. rdadey (331) | 6 months ago | There are plenty of places to take online courses from. I have done so myself and some I was happy and some not. It all depends on the schools and the type of courses you are taking. It also depends on how serious and dedicated you will be because you are really on your own and you need really focus. I find that technical courses can be frustrating at times, I've done these courses and ended up really getting angry when basically all I was doing was reading the text from cover to cover and just doing the questions and reviews at the end of each chapter, I find that very dry and not very interesting. If you can interact with other students it's a bonus and if you have instructors who will answer you inquiries in short time it lessens the frustration.
You need to research the institutions that offer courses you are interested in and actually talk to their counselors to see what support they offer. Another important thing to look at is if you are looking for employment will the courses you are taking from the institution be recognized by employers or be transferable to other schools for credit.
If you have the time, patience, dedication, finances and determination; go for it.

JenInTN (3770) | 6 months ago | Hi rdadey! I wouldn't like the ones in which I was just reading a text from cover to cover. I can do that from the library for free. I would like to be a bit challenged and be able to ask questions and be somewaht involved with other students. My company will pay a portion of my fees provided my grades are a certain percent and it pertains to my job. I have taken a couple of business classes and took electronics through a trade school. They were not online classes though. I think I would really enjoy it if I could find one with the right credentials and the right price. Thanks for the response.

JenInTN (3770) | 6 months ago | Hi deepak! I am anxious to hear what everyone thinks about online classes. I have taken "live" classes before but I think it would be a lot easier to be able to do my work from home..provided there is sufficient help if I were to get stuck on something. My company will pay a portion of my fee provided I keep a certain grade point average and it pertains to work. Thanks for the response..I'll keep you updated.

9. lologirl2021 (1639) | 6 months ago | I have been an online student of a university in town for almost two years now. At the end of august i will be done. It was great doing all my work online, i really enjoyed it and i think that going to a classroom would be hard and would really be boring to me. I think it is a lot easier as you have saturday and sunday to do your work and in class you don't have saturday and sunday to do work, your not always so determined to turn in work on time as i really don't have a certain day or time to do this, i just have a week to week schedule and every week by saturday there are things due, so i don't find it to bad.

10. angelajoy (983) | 6 months ago | Yes I have, but it was only an English class. I haven't tried earning a degree online. I don't think that such degrees would be taken seriously by employers. I think online studying is best if you just want to take classes that you are not going to seriously pursue. I remember universalclass offering lots of short courses that you could use in everyday life. But if you're serious about finishing your studies and earning a degree, then you better go to a real school.

JenInTN (3770) | 6 months ago | Thanks for the input angelajoy! I know what you are saying but I have found these classes to have become very popular among people that have fulltime jobs. I'll have to check with my boss and see what he says about it before being obligated to anything. Take care.
