Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie! | | So, I haven't yet seen the movie, coz it isn't out yet in the local theatres. I know that's lame, but there's nothing that can be done, so I'll just have to wait. I really wanted to know what's your reaction on the movie.
Don't worry, spoilers are welcome. I've read the books loads of times, to the extent that I could almost recite every line of every characters verbatim, so I'm not concerned about spoilers anymore. It's the movie, the graphics, the atmosphere of the theatre and such that I wanna know about.
So, how was it? I heard it hit the box office, only to be superseded by another movie about guinea pig heroes.
I'm really excited about it, I've cried when Dumbledore died in the book, and I want to find out if the end part of the movie is also tear-jerking.
Thanks!

Since you wanted spoilers, I'll go into detail about what I mean.
In the book, when Ron drinks the poisoned drink with Professor Slughorn and Harry, Harry quickly makes use of a bezoar, or whatever it's called. He knows this because of his potions book, which is very important. In the movie, there is no mention of a bezoar and when Ron drinks it Harry just randomly starts searching around for something and sticks something in Ron's mouth just in time to save him. My husband, who didn't read the book, had no idea what went on there.
Also, I found it a little odd that halfway through this movie the burrow caught on fire and was destroyed.
And Harry/Ginny get together as do Ron/Hermione. The Ron/Hermione relationship is a little weird in the movie to the point where Hermione actually cries over Ron and everything.
As for the Dumbledore scene you mentioned, I kind of like how they did that part and kind of didn't. I won't ruin it for you, though, but I will say that they didn't show his funeral or anything.
The most outputting part of everything was the ending. The entire movie is called the HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, but there is NO explanation whatsoever about it like there is in the book. It's kind of an important thing since that's what the book/movie is supposed to hinge around. Snape just claims that he's the half-blood prince and walks away. My husband kind of turned to me and was like...what does that mean? Why is he a half-blood prince? He thought he was descended from royalty or something! LOL.
All in all, good movie, but a little divergent. It focus A LOT on relationships, though, and I thought that could have been toned down a bit without hurting the film any.

| icenjelrocks (61) | 5 months ago | Oh. That's dissapointing, I agree. I kinda wanted to see how they would arrive at the conclusion that it was Snape who was the Half-blood Prince. That is especially relevant since it would link and explain somehow the how and why on Tom Riddle's royal pseudonym, right? It was sort of linked in the book. And Dumbledore's funeral is one of the most heart-breaking scene for me in the book. Did they include the part where Harry used Sectumsempra against Malfoy? I hope they did, that was also very significant, Harry first usage of a Dark spell. I guess I'll have to prepare for some disappointment, if they left things like that. But I'll have to see for myself what they've done on the effects. They say it's awesome.
Thanks Phyrre!

phyrre (713) | 5 months ago | Yes, they included Harry using Sectumsempra, but it was a kind of a weird scene. The boys were battling in the dungeons then Harry uses it and there's no noise or anything and he doesn't say a word when he sees Malfoy and then out of nowhere Snape and some other professor (can't remember who at this point) show up just in time to heal Malfoy. It seemed like that could've run a little more fluidly.^_^

thanks phyrre...

There is no real fighting scene, it's full of romance and I started to get fidgety. It didn't excite or enthral me, I just want to see the final film now but sadly as they've made book 7 into two films it's going to be a very very long wait, no doubt the next film will be slow too, probably even slower, and finally it will all be action in the 8th film, lets hope so! I will probably read book 6 more than see the film again, although I will get it on dvd as part of my ongoing Harry Potter collection. It was sad when Dumbledore dies and you want just Snape to suffer! Being a revengeful person I hate it when the bad guys get away and Malfoy needs to be punished too, but we will have to wait and see if Snape and Malfoy do get their come uppance, no spoilers here;0)

| icenjelrocks (61) | 5 months ago | On Malfoy, I think you'll end up being disappointed, because at the end of the 7th book, he'll sort of be forgiven. He'll try to live a normal life, and in the prologue I've read that he's sending his son to Hogwarts, and Harry will see him there, although they won't be talking to each other really. Just some glances.
So they focused on relationships, huh? But where's the thrill that we grew up to in the earlier movies? That's what clicked in the past movies, right? I'm thrilled with the Ginny-Harry and Ron-Hermione team-up, but they should still have centered on the fights, Dumbledore's death, and such. Harry Potter is all about magical adventures and the struggle of good and evil, right? Gosh, I hate it when a good adventure story ends up being shown as a romantic novel.
Thanks for the response Wolfie34!

The only reason i watched the movie was so i could see that final battle and i was dissapointed it didnt show. Also it hinted at dumbledores death and stuff during movie so i would ave money and not watch it. thats my opinion

| | 6. figjam00 (1017) | 5 months ago | I haven't read any of the Harry Potter book but yes I have seen all the movies. So I think there would be certain difference between book and a movie. As far I think all the movies have given sufficient information regarding the characters and the story.

|
| icenjelrocks (61) | 5 months ago | Yeah, that might be the case, for the earlier movie, that is. The recent one just doesn't satisfy the story, it lacks essence. As said by wolfie, it focused more on the relationships, it somehow lacks the elements of adventure as portrayed in the book. Disappointing actually, compared to the precedent movies.
