I want to buy my own plants... but what do I do with them? |
|
I finally found a parsley plant and a basil plant at Wal-mart yesterday. I almost bought them both. But then I started thinking and I wasn't sure what to do with them. I know parsley I can use as is, or I can dry it to use later. Not sure how to dry it but I know I can! But the basil I really wasn't sure of. I figured I can dry it... but how? Can I use the leaves straight from the plant? Do I have to dry them first? What is the best way to dry leaves so I can use them? Help... I want to eat more natural but I don't know what to do!!!!

1. kprofgames (1430) | 5 months ago | My mother raises both of them and she dries them in her oven - low setting maybe 280 or 300 and just check them. I think finely chopped it shouldn't take more then 5 minutes. I'm alittle fuzzy on the time details.
I love basil and use it in about everything I make, parsley is a great additive for color but basil - oh you will fall in love with basil. She stores them in air tight jars like an olive jar or pickle jar or you can up them in zip lock bags too.
Seriously, you wouldn't believe the extra flavor from them.

2. jb78000 (1707) | 5 months ago | i think with all herbs you can use them straight from the plant or dry them. fresh basil is great but the flavour seems stronger when you dry it. i have a lot of herb plants i grew from seeds and they make nice house plants as well as being handy for cooking.

macdingolinger (1183) | 5 months ago | I guess it would be stronger if it's dried because it's more of it.. like it's concentrated. I was thinking they would make good house plants too. But the basil has little flowers and I usually have allergies... so I am not real sure!!Thanks for the information!!

thea09 (4348) | 5 months ago | Hi again, I just wanted something really light tonight as not feeling too good with the heat so I made a cherry tomato and basil salad with a little olive oil, to go with some scramble eggs with basil in, it really does bring out the flavours.
