The watermelon is a childhood fruit that we grew up on. I remember my aunt having a big watermelon that she bought from the grocery store. She would slice the watermelon into slices for us all. It was seven of us all that lived in the trailer. She would slice it and tell us to go outside and eat it. I used to love it back in the days. I remember the leftover watermelon being on a hard ceramic plate left in the fridge. Now, I have gotten so tired of eating watermelon as an adult. When I see it in the store, I will not buy it, that is like the last fruit that I will pick up. My children love it. I love to put some lite salt on it. And I love it when it is icy cold. It has so much juicy water in it until it feels like I am slurping water from thirst. About the green bottom of the watermelon.. Is it true that if you eat the green bottom part, that one will become ill or dead? What is your take on this exotic juicy fruit?

You're getting me hungry for watermelon now! LOL! When I get paid next month I think I will buy one. I haven't had one in years! By the way, the green bottom isn't poisonous to eat. In the past I loved snacking on the green bottom because it had a tangy flavor to it. It's okay to eat. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Yes I also like watermelon especially at summer time. I like the sweet watery taste of that fruit, I like it to be served as chilled. Rationally thinking there is nothing wrong with the bottom part of the watermelon, if someone will be ill or die just because of eating it, it should be the whole watermelon and not just the bottom part. So its just a myth.

In summer watermelon is my favourite thing especially now that they have the seedless ones, I think watermelon is the most refreshing thing you can have in the hot weather, and yet I know a couple of people who hate it, i just don't understand how anyone could hate this fruit, it is just so lovely...

Certainly a cold, sliced watermelon is the perfect addition to any summer cookout. I probaby don't enjoy it as often as i did when i was a yongster either, but i do partake in it on occasion. especially at work, i work in a grocery store and one of my favorite lite lunches are these fresh made fruit bowls they make in the produce department, they have chunks of fresh waermelon, cantelope, honey dew, red grapes and a few pieces of fresh pine apple. The end result is a fruit salad so yummy and delicious and filling, PLUS i can feel good about eating fruit, which is far better for me than fried chicken or mayo filled sandwiched from the deli. Though my favorite thing to do with a watermelon is to make a watermelon vodka bowl for parties. take a whole watermelon, cut a hole in the top and scoop out some of the flesh from inside, then dump a bottle of vodka (use the cheap stuff, it doesn't really matter once it is done) and pour it in, place in the fridge for a couple of hours then when you are ready for a refrshing summer cocktail, use a ladel to scoop out some of the watermelon/vodka mixture into a cup, add a splash of seltzer water or even ginger ale for a little fun fizz, and enjoy. yummy
