I will not disagree with you that guns are dangerous in the hands of the wrong people, or when used for the wrong reasons. However, the same can be said for other weapons as well. How many people have been killed with swords over the centuries? Weapons, cars, and even tools can be dangerous when used by untrained people, or when used with malicious intent. Just an observation...

Yes indeed my friend, but merely guns don't kill. The one who pressed the trigger does. Guns or any weapon can do physical damage to us and even cause death. Its the principle of how it was used and the one used it. If these weapons are used for the benefit of saving ones life maybe we can see it in the other side of likeness but if it used to benefit for his own then its a different scenario.

Not weird at all to me. I know lots of women who own guns, and who love to hunt and shoot for sport.

I grew up around guns. My dad was in law enforcement when I was a kid. I was also in law enforcement for a while when I was in my early twenties. I grew up in southern Georgia (USA). Hunting and shooting were very popular. Most of the people I went to school with liked to hunt and fish. Guns were just a part of our lives. Guns can be dangerous if an untrained or careless person gets one, or if the person using it is using it for the wrong reasons. However, in the hands of someone who knows how to handle a gun properly, a gun can be handled safely. A gun is just like a sword or any other weapon. It is important to teach people, especially kids, that guns are dangerous, and how to handle guns safely if you are going to have guns around. There are trigger locks and other devices to help keep guns from firing accidentally, but their is no substitution for education. It is the same principle as teaching kids to drive. More experience equals safer driving. The same holds true with gun safety.

In case anyone's wondering, I'm in the UK and guns are illegal but my dad was a policeman and we were visiting a friend who has a farm so it was safe.

I like weapons of all kinds, but guns seem to be my favorite. I guess it is because I grew up hunting and shooting as a kid. I am afraid that Obama and his goons are going to try to make guns illegal here, which would seriously alter the way of life I enjoyed as a kid, being able to go out and hunt and stuff like that. Hunting and shooting are part of our heritage here in the southern US. It would be a shame to lose that.

GOD, GUNS, and GUTS made America great...yet it seems that we are somehow turning away from all three. People are trying to take God out of everything. Most of our political leaders do not have the guts to handle the really tough issues. Now, everyone is screaming for gun control because of the actions of a relative few. The criminals will always have guns, and they will use them. Taking the guns away from the law-abiding citizens in our country would only make them easier targets for the convicts among us.

Obama will not make guns illegal......rest assured - - there is a lot being said at the moment that is really skewing the way people are looking at the current administration - -there will always be groups that disagree with gun laws and there will always be disagreements in general but don't disagree just for the sake of it- it will rip this country apart -- I am English and moved to this country 12 years ago - I love it here, but the level of ignorance is terrifying - read and think -
whether you agree with Obama or not - I don't think he is a stupid man and only someone stupid would criminalize owning a gun in this country -

I can certainly see your point. A similar occurrence would probably have given me a bad feeling about guns too. I grew up around guns, though, so I am not bothered by them. They are dangerous in the hands of the wrong people, though, as all the school shooting and things of that nature prove. However, the guns are not to blame. There are other weapons which can be equally as deadly, and just as easy to get or make yourself. It would be just as easy to make a bomb and smuggle it into the school as it is to sneak a gun in there. You can find out how to do it right here on the internet, and MOST households contain all the ingredients needed to put together a bomb that will do some serious damage or cause serious injuries.

You know, you've raised a good point about the whole gun issue. And I agree with you. It's really when they are in the wrong hands that guns can get dangerous. I guess had I grown up around them I would be comfortable with them. Sadly that's not really the way that it went.
