Another Attack on a Pizza Delivery Man

This situation is getting out of hand! I mentioned in a post last week that a pizza delivery man was lured to a vacant house where he was brutally beaten, robbed, and car-jacked. The man is still fighting for his life. The first news I see this morning is another attack upon a pizza delivery man, this time as he left the restaurant to make a delivery. I like pizza, and I usually will order at least one each month. When I called to place my order a couple of months ago I was told that they would not deliver in my complex anymore after 4:00 P.M. I have since had to either order early or use another restaurant. I think it's such a shame when hard-working people are targeted in their pursuit of making a living. I hope that this situation will soon be brought under control here. Have delivery people been unusually targeted in your area?

That is right down awful, sickening and ridiculous. It is a wander, that they can even get people to drive for them anymore because of it. I think they should have two people delivering. I think they would be a little safer. I have not heard of this recently in our area though, thank God.

I hope they will figure out something to do, stepcjh, before we become unable to have anything delivered to us.

I totally agree, in places that are of a high risk of these attacks they should definatley have 2 drivers going out together, for their own safety.

It is sad that they have to be in danger, but I am sure it will keep happening. Things just keep getting worse and worse.

Thoroughrob, You know that this kind of thrift is going to cause the pizza industry to stop the delivery options. This will again put another person out of work. The guy who thinks he can rob needs to think about that the next time someone in his family orders a pizza.

The first responder had a really good idea that could solve the problem, Thoroughrob. I agree that it would be much safer for the drivers if they did not carry any money on them.

Oh how I would love to order in a pizza or Chines meal. We are an hour away from the nearest town that has those sort of things....I don't believe they deliver here at any time. Seriously though, this is shocking though I haven't heard of any been attacked, beaten and robbed lately, though I vaguely recall that is has happened in Sydney somewhere at least once in the last several years. In Australia, pizza delivery people are paid a pittance. To think they would have to put up with a beating is just horrible.

I'd probably be better off weight-wise, Ms Tickle, if I did not have easy access to such establishments.Still, there has been an escalation in these kinds of crime in my area recently. The criminals pick on the easiest targets knowing full well that the amount of cash they carry is so small.

I remember first hearing about something like this several years ago in New Jersey where some teenagers lured a pizza delivery man out so tey could kill him. They wanted to see what it was like to kill someone.

I believe I remember the case you are referring to, burrito, and it was disgusting. Some of the young people today are very frightening.

My son tried delivering pizza for awhile. He was not robbed but some guys cornered him but he was able to drive away. They actually chased him all he could figure was they saw the identifying light on the top of his truck and knew he must have some cash. He went right back to the pizza place and quit.

I am sorry that your son had to quit his job delivering pizzas, macdingolinger, but I understand that his safety came first.

such acts are really unfortunate. we need to rethink what inspires our society and also reconsider what freedom of expression really means. unfortunately in many cases even the law is lax which makes the culprits confident of being able to get away with their act.

It does help to have a reliable law enforcement body around, sunny, but crime in the inner city is so rampant that I fear they would need at least twice as many officers as they now have.

Oh my thats really shocking, why would you want to do that to a pizza delivery guy anyway? They hardly carry any money on them anyway? Here they dont carry any more than £20 at a time. We havent had any problems like that here in the UK, well none that i have heard of anyway, thats such a terrible thing :(

The world is becoming a scarier place. I think many delivery services such as Pizza, etc. Will soon start having everyone pay over the phone by credit or debit card. This way they might ensure they have a real paying customer and prevent such attacks. The drivers will not have to carry cash and put themselves at risk of being robbed.

That sounds like a good solution to the problem, Croak! Though I don't always pay in this manner, I would be willing to do so if it would help to insure the safety of the delivery people.
