What is your favorite period of world history? | | I am fascinated with world history and I am into research about the greatest wars every fought in human history: Hundred years of war and World War I.
I am more interested with Britain's history than any other country. They have a colorful historical background, full of magic, charm and convulse with fairy tales. I plan to right a book about the different royal houses that molded the British throne.

Wasn't even hardly about stopping slavery.. it was about all NEW states coming into the union would be free and the south didn't like that. They could have kept their slaves, but they fought anyway. ANd the North didn't "win" the war... they just starved the south to death. Bottled up every avenue into the south, so nothing could get in or out... literally starved the south. Battle gurus have stated the South "won" the war based on battles etc, but the North starved the south so the south had to surrender.... never learned that in schoo. Thank goodness for the history channel!

| | 2. frozenimage (421) | 5 months ago | I am interested in the American War before WW1. How interesting is it when soldiers from both sides line up shoulder to launch a volley of musket fire and reloading under fire? What most people don't know was, America fight and won freedom with the help from other countries to fight off the British. The American Civil War was the same thing such as the Irish. Basically, America need allies to help out except for the Pacific Theater during WW2, that is one war they can be proud of winning.

The areas of history I am most interested in are WW1 and WW2, Classical Rome and Greece and the French renaissance. Although Russian history is interesting too.
British history is interesting and I have studied it for 4-5 years. With a focus on the Tudor-Stewart period. Best of luck with writing your book.

jlamela (2816) | 5 months ago | Like you, I love history too, unfortunately I took up business course in college, but right now I undergo self-study in history and focus on the British monarchy. Tudors and Stuarts are good topics because these English royal houses were the most controversial. Well, Stuart ascended the English throne when the last Tudorian monarch-Elizabeth I-died with out a direct heir, she was succeeded by her great-great nephew King James VI of Scotland and became King James I of England, the first of the Stuart monarchs. This incident united the two Kingdoms of England and Scotland through a Personal Union Act of 1701 forming the geographical name of Great Britain.
Stuarts descended from the Tudors, Mary Queen of Scots (the mother of James I),was the granddaughter of Princess Margaret, daughter of King Henry VII of England-the founder of the Tudorian line.

| | 6. ElicBxn (15601) | 5 months ago | Old stuff, the older the better, in fact, my mom and I went to the British Museum and I was going around in there looking closely at so many things, but when we got to the "Dark Ages" or Medieval times I said "Well, I'm done." We spent about 10 hours there, on 2 separate days to let me see what all I wanted to see.
I also like non-European or U.S. history because we just didn't get that much of those kinds of history here in the states.
OR, to put it another way, I have a minor in History in my B.S. and have 30 hours of history, including, History of the Near East (Arab/north Africa) and History of the Middle and Far East (India, south-east Asia, China, etc.) Those classes were HARD, but I really enjoyed them. I also took a History of Mexico. Now, just so you know, I also took both halves of the Recent American History (1890's to 1970's) well, it was 1975... and a course in the "Westward Movement" that was excellent. Those 18 hours on top of the 12 hours required survey course in U.S. History and survey course in "World" History (read mostly European) made the 30. If I had JUST had a foreign language I could'a had a double major....

ElicBxn (15601) | 5 months ago | See, I'm just BORED with those subjects because I got them and got them and GOT them. I wanted NEW information, and I sure wasn't going to get it in ANOTHER European history class.
