do you use natural flea products for your dogs?  email this discussion to a friend?

I've been doing a lot of research online for natural flea remedies for our dogs. I've heard that putting lavender, rosemary or eucalyptus leaves under their bedding repells fleas. Has anyone ever tried this?

I also read a lot about giving dogs Brewer's yeast. I went looking for it in the baking aisle at the store & it wasn't there! I wasn't sure what it was. Then I found Brewer's yeast tablets in the pet section of the store. I bought them, but my husband was not thrilled with the idea. He called our vet, who said he didn't know anything about it & recommended buying Frontline or other topical treatments. I don't like putting all those chemicals on my pets.

Do you have any natural flea treatments that you have used & found to work?

I am not sure about tablet form, but Brewer's yeast can be used to repel fleas. The only problem is that some dogs may develop a skin allergy after eating or being rubbed with yeast.
I added cedar chips to the stuffing in my dogs pet pillow. Cedar chips repel fleas as well as other insects.
I also have mixed ten parts water to one part white vinegar and sprayed my dog with it although this isnt the most pleasant smelling solution, I havent had any fleas in a while.
Hope this helps you out.

Do you know where to buy Brewer's yeast? Oh, it just dawned on me, does that mean "brewer's" as in making beer?? hmmm! I'm willing to try just about anything to keep all those chemicals off my pets. The outside cats keep coming in & bringing in more & more fleas. It is never ending around here.

We don't have dogs, but we do have a cat, that has never left the apt, except to go to the Vet's, so we really don't need to use a lot of stuff on him.

I have read that too I have never tried yeast but I have used white vinegar and water. Mix it half and half in a spray bottle. It doesn't kill all the fleas but it helps. Just spray them whenever you see them scratching it helps.

That depends in the location - what is not working or what is working. What works on bugs and what doesn't work on bugs. Location is the answer. Ask the vets or pet shop people to help you out what is right for you.

I have problems with fleas, but they seem to be dying out,Thank God!I tired a remedy that worked but I didn't put it on my dog because I don't think you can.I bought borax and mixed it with salt and spread it all over .On carpets and in the couch. It breaks down the fleas life cycle.I didn't want to use poisons because then I have to leave the house for hours.
I think I'm getting these fleas under control now.I don't get bit anymore. My house was infested.I bought a flea comb for the dog and he seems like there's less and less on him.I found out the fleas came from my basement. My dog didn't bring them home.We don't use our basement and I happened to go down there and it was infested badly.I put borax and salt all over the floor of the basement.I'm trying to get the nerve to go down there and see if they're being killed off, which I'll have to check it today.Upstairs here, the fleas are pretty much gone.
They are hard to get rid of once they infest your house.I spent alot of money trying to kill them. This borax and salt is safe to shake on your carpets. It won't hurt your pets.I'm just not sure about putting it on the animal,I don't reccomend it.Maybe buy a flea comb and comb them out of the animal and put them in soapy water. They get stuck in the comb so they can't jump away.Soapy water kills them.
