We usually put chopsticks in a cylinder with holes in the bottom. They need be cleaned frequently, otherwise nobody could be sure which ones are clean or dirty. How do you assure all chopsticks or spoons clean for using?

Hi zhuhuifen, I wash them in the same way as anything else, kitchen things which need washing either get soaked in one of the sinks until I feel like washing them, or left to one side of the sink until washed. Once washed they are left to drain, and then put away. If something has been put away where it belongs, then it is clean. I never gave any thought at all to washing up beyond that.

I guess we can't know for sure. When my uncle takes us out for dinner, he'll use a cup of tea to wash for utensils before using it. At home, I always assume once washed, it is always clean.

zhuhuifen46, At home, I have a electric sterile cabinet for my dinning wares and utensils. So, all of these kitchen and dinning wares will be stored after they are washed and cleaned. This cabinet does assure sterile and hygiene upkeep where it will be free from germs, contamination from rodents or pests. When I am dinning outside, depending where I am. I would have to observe what is being done and customary. For example in China, dinning wares like cups, bowls, plates, soup spoon and chopsticks are sterile pack in certain restaurants. Yet, there will be other restaurants who will serve you with a bowl of hot water to rinse the dinning wares. So, we just have to do whatever is customarily practiced. Having traveled quite extensively I have had the experience of different customs and culture so, I am quite flexible. Besides, I feel we need to trust our hosts sometimes when things just does not seem usual or to our liking. After all, food poisoning from our dinning utensils is really quite rare nowadays compared to contaminated or ill prepared food.

Thanks for responding. An electric sterilizer is a good way at home. When dining out, we have to rely on the restaurants.

We just submerge our spoons and forks inside an unbreakable container with a very hot water after cleaning them up with dish washing soap and a running water, so at least, if not possibly kill all the bacteria, limit their growth.

We put the chopsticks, spoons and forks in a closed container. But we sure do not always clean all the time. So, before use, we always clean it again with a tissue or towel.
