kudzu is used in traditional chinese medicine to treat addictions, and has been shown to help boozing animals and humans to cut down. recently a synthetic version was tested on some unfortunate rats and it appeared to reduce their cravings. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/08/090812-kudzu-alcoholic.html?source=email_wn_20090814 what traditional or alternative medicines have you used, for what and did you think they helped? i once was given some homeopathic medicine when i got a nasty stomach bug when travelling and was very surprised to find it worked. (i'd always thought homeopathic stuff was basically just placebos).

I rarely need to take anything apart from the occasional analgesic for the rare headache, and I've never considered useing a homeopathic remedy for anything at all. However, I did once meet a woman who believed in these "natural" medicines and she tried a preparation that was supposed to combat travel sickness. It made her sick! Not quite the desired result!

the one thing my mother's family and my father's family had in common was a strong belief in homeopathic stuff, as a result i was given lots of it as a child. it rarely had a perceivable effect which is one of the reasons i was surprised when it worked on the stomach bug. actually to be fair the ointments (arnica and so on) did seem to work as far as i remember.
