I wouldn't panic too much. the regular seasonal flu kills 30,000 people every year. this flu has only killed a handfull of people so far. I actually had this a couple months ago. It wasn't much fun, I felt like shytte for a few days, but I am still here to tell about it. there is far too much hype over this and the media and the world health organization are pushing that hype even further. Don't give in to it and panic. Just take what ever precautions you would normaly take for the average seasonal flu.

I think the media has pushed us all into a state of panic over swine flu. As I understand it, the majority of people who catch it will feel pretty awful for a week or so but then go on to make a full recovery. Sadly, there will be vulnerable people with underlying health problems who will not recover - as, indeed there are with 'ordinary' flu every year. I can't help but wonder if the fear and anxiety of catching it could lower one's immunity and therefore increase the risk? I think the obvious infection control measures are probably the best we can do to protect ourselves. Catching coughs and sneezes in hankies (or tissues & disposing of them carefully); regular handwashing; staying at home if you suspect you have it; not sharing the same drinks can/cup/spoon etc; trying to avoid warm crowded confined spaces.... if you type it into a search engine and consult reputable health sites you will get details of symptoms/risks/prevention methods. Hope you stay healthy

The first casualties of the swine flu fell in Mexico. It is, like any other flu, a virus, unfortunately unlike the normal flu this one spreads easier because we are not resistant to it. Of course you can prevent yourself from the swine flu. Wash your hands regularly, use disposable tissues when sneezing, don't touch your eyes, nose ( etc) when you touch any object. You don't have to worry too much though, it is not more dangerous than the normal flu. In most cases people only die from it when they are already sick or when they live in bad conditions. If you really are afraid for your health wear a face mask from at least the ffp2 type. In my country they come at a price of roughly 5 euros a piece.
