We can see this in many questions involving great bands. For example, could you decide who is the best band of all time when there are choices like Led Zeppelin,Queen,Dire Strait,The Doors,The Beattles and many others?
I think all of this depends on the popularity of the band.
If someone asked us about heavy metal bandas we would probably talk about Metallica or Slipknot because these bands are probably the most popular and if we are going to choose using this criteria, we would probably pick Metallica | |

| 3. ImNotFish (75) | 3 months ago |  I don't really listen to heavy metal, but I do listen to Metallica. For me, their music its not just about speed and distortion, but their songs are melodic. This is what makes me keep on listening to them.
Some of my favourite songs are Nothing Else Matters, Master of Puppets, One, Fade to Black and Cyanide. As I am an electric guitarist, I found that I can learn a lot from their songs. And I am always surprised by their songs, like odd tempos, change of key etc..

My final opinion is like Black Sabbath create the Heavy Metal and Metallica definitely improved it..

I remember listening to "For whom the bells toll" in my car and really getting into it. Then I listened to tracks like "battery" with a beer in my hand, and it was great!! I drove like a complete maniac when I heard "whiplash".
I've seen them two times here in Oz and I want to see them perform their latest album which was so great for an ageing metal band.
S & M is the best music DVD ever produced IMO. I've kept the neighbors awake with it even when they thought I was past that sort of stuff. But Metallica something special. They are the greatest!!

I'm sure many people would dispute that, but I don't care. My opinion will always be, they are the greatest of all time. Too many classics from them. Sure St Anger was bad, but whether you liked Load and Reload or not, you have to admit it was quality music.

| 7. AD1970 (92) | 2 months ago |  I liked Metallica till the black album. However, since then (Load and Reload, St. Anger), they have been extremely crappy and seem a pale shadow of themselves.
My favorite metal band of all time would have to be Megadeth. I think they still rock and are actually more accessible than Metallica, though not quite as popular. I really can't figure out why...
