How can something that is supposed to be good for you smell so badly?

I was on another site where I read a post about cabbage. The person talked about how good their cabbage recipe is. I thought to myself I like cabbage when it's done cooking, but the cooking process has the kitchen and nearby dining room area smelling so foul, that I wondered, how can something that is supposed to be good for you smell so badly?
What are your thoughts on this?

Well, I love cabbage. I also have no problem with its smell. Perhaps there was something added during the cooking that made such awful smell. There are some things that really smell awful yet carries a lot of nutrients. It just depends on the person if he or she can tolerate the smell. Well, I do hope you will find a way to get rid of the smell. Perhaps adding some herbs or spices will somehow eradicate the problem.

Oh my. I love cabbage and actually I love how it smells too. Were you boiling it? Or what were you doing with it? Maybe you were doing something or adding something that made it smell bad..Who knows.
I was going to mention the same thing about onions and garlic. Both onions and garlic make your breath smell HORRIBLE - but they're both really good for you! It's like God's punishing us for eating healthy or something.

Part of what is so good for you in cabbage is sulfur compounds, I believe. And that is what smells so bad as well. I prefer cooked cabbage to raw, and it gets along better with me. I know they make odorless garlic capsules, I wonder when they will develop odorless cabbage.

Yeah I guess its kinda like Buckleys medicine..in which case it tastes awful but in DOES work. As for cabbage Im not a fan of the taste or smell..I dont eat cabbage..I stick with spinach..Its really good for you and no bad smell..you could try eating that instead maybe.

I love spinach as well and already eat it. I not to long ago had some creamed spinach. It was awesome!
