Some years back i could not walk or stand due to this back pain. I learnt some yoga exercises which has reduced my back pain a lot.
But i am lazy in doing exercises and so find those back pain peeping on and off when i have a strenous day.
Ask her to join some yoga classes conducted by professionals and she is bound to get relief from her back pain.

It is a system of exercises using some kind of elastic ropes. You can find very nice explanation how it works on their web site http://www.painfreesmsystem.com/ I have great experience with it. It is not difficult, but if you have some troubles you can join some of their workshops. I guess they do it regularly in NY, not sure about the other cities.
