You cannot use just any old link.
If it points to anything which will earn for you or someone else it is not allowed.
Links to articles on sites which earn by views are NOT allowed for example just as those to personal blogs are not either.

I meant 'whenever' in the context of using links at any time and not having to reach 500 posts rather than using any type of link.
Obviously the link that you use must be within guidelines.

Why do we distort the Guidelines
to make them suit what we want?

I got it now. Thanks mike & mysdianait. So, why we need the "copy and paste"? One after another question.

You write your posts on Word
then copy them here.
That way even if myLot does go missing for 7 hours like today
you have lots of posts ready!

They say the same thing - DON'T copy articles and paste them here!

This is where I am getting confused, in the first sentence it seems that it's ok to paste copyright articles and photos as long as you link them

But, then in the second sentence it says don't do it all?

I don't get it? Sorry, please explain.

and what if the its PART an article and you link it....is pasting part an article ok?

I think the second part is about photo. Not articles. Am I right?

I am also of the idea that there should be no need to try and find a 'loophole'. I have been here over two years and have never found it necessary to copy even part of an article. I link to it PERIOD.
I very rarely add photos as I have none of my own but I manage to get lots of posts just the same

From all that I have seen it would be ok to copy a paragraph from an article as long as you make members aware of the fact and leave a link.
From reading and following the guidelines to the letter it would seem as if we shouldn't use ANY part of a copyrighted article.
If this is the case then there have been many thousand discussions which have violated the rules.

I would never use a copyright image and wouldn't copy a whole article as this would be cheating.
I have used a small part of an article with a link many times in discussions with no problem...just as many members have.
This probably needs some further investigation.

I am going to try and clarify this point about using a small part of an article as I do know it is common practice here to do this.

The guidelines do say no copyright articles or pictures to be posted and I understand the image part but think the article part needs to be plainly explained.

I will look back at some admin discussions and see if there is anything further there.

I'm not using any part of anything from now on until I am sure about this.

There are so many discussions up that are violating
yet so many users complain that things are removed without cause.
If something goes there WAS cause and when the rest eventually go it will be because there was a cause too.
Just that so often we don't want to see what it was

I agree that there are times when a discussion violates the guidelines but we don't see it because it is done all the time.
The bit about using a small ammount of an article could well explain a good many of these deletions

To Mike, Oh my good word! How vigilant is mylot? I mean if they have let these PART pastings through (with link),doesn't it mean it's ok to do, surely they can't be that blind?

And thank you Mysdianait for the interpretation on the guideline, I had totally misunderstood it.

As you've probably guessed this is my first time on ANY type of discussion forum on the web, I have always been a surfer/reader and never a participator before and so am pretty blind as a bat! It's all alot to intake and sometimes I just assimilate things back to front! Story of my life!

How about non copyright articles? Since the guidelines only mention about the copyright one. Or all the articles has copyright? I don't really this copyright thing. Care to explain?

Is there such a thing as a non copyright article?
If I write something it is mine.
If you copy it and call it yours by not placing a link to it then that is plagiarism, an offence.

I'm not sure if there is any such thing as a non copyright article but will be finding out.

Then why the second sentence only mention about photo? Why not articles and/or photo? I start to confuse here same like sritrinity.

That does seem to be the case.

I can understand about photo since the second sentence clear it out. But that sentence didn't mention about the articles.

If you look at the bit of the policy that I used in my response it seems to say not to use any copyright thing without permission.
I have always used small parts of an article so will be checking about this when I get the time.

This is what the guidelines appear to say but I will see if I can find out more as I have always used the C&P like this with no problems.

Please also clarify what exactly is the copy and paste function for then? Not that I've got it yet? But whilst were here then.....

LetranKnight i feel you are mistaken that my posts were WORD for WORD.

I have typed in the links below each of three discussions now, please go and check.

Please show me how they are word for word.

Some descriptive Key words and some speech has been copied, but I don't agree that the ENTIRE post is word for word as I made it a point to mix things up and only take main points out of the original fuller articles.

I have checked many times now and am truly confused and also hurt.
