How do you tackle the mosquito menace at night while there is no power. We use mosquito nets, coz it is safer, comparing to the burning mosquito coils where there are chances of catching fire to the bed linen and causing a major fire accident

Hello vathsala, I read in a book that mosquitoes track us from the carbon dioxide that we exhale. That is why if you sit in front of a fan (the carbon dioxide that we exhale get dispersed), mosquitoes don't bite you. But since you're talking about having no power then sitting in front of a fan is out of the question. Research has shown that mosquitoes prefer the blood of animals to that of human. Scientists discover that someone who sleeps in the same room with a pig doesn't get bitten. Just sharing information. Don't anyone get the idea that I condone animal sacrifices, he he.

Hi Umi Thank you for the kind information. May be you are true to my knowledge. Ofcourse we are having a dog and it sleeps under the our cot only . Still mosquitoes will both the dog and we too. But now since we are using electronic bats to combat mosquito menace, we are relieved now

Thank you vathsala for the BR. And I'm glad to hear that you've got a solution to your mosquito menace. Perhaps mosquitoes don't bite your dog more than you is because dogs have such thick fur and mosquitoes can't reach the skin easily. Pigs' skins are so exposed therefore mosquitoes are able to bite them easily.

Yes, mosquitoes are a menace no doubt and as you say coils are also dangerous as many people develop breathing problems because of the smoke it emits. You can try these good knight mats which you have to put on an hour or so before the power supply is disrupted, the smell prevails and mosquitoes do not attack much.

Hi Yogambal I too heared that coils causes breathing problem, besides i have read in news papers and magazines about the fire accidents that occured because of the burning coil in the night during the sleeping time. Mats too are, though effective is not useful in times of power failure. So now we are using electronic bats to combat the mosquito menace

Bug spray. We don't really get mosquitoes in our houses, thankfully, but when we're outside and especially after swimming or when we're out by the fire..They're horrible! We douse ourselves in Off (bug spray) and that seems to work OK. Other than that, me & my family make sure to wear clothes that actually cover us (long jeans / sweatshirts).

Hi maezee More than inside the mosquitoes will be outside, more and horrible at times. We were using mats and coils before but now we are using electronic bats which is safe for our health
