Do you/ Would you view yourself as eternal? |
|
I for one, I do believe that I've always existed in some form or the other. Regardless of what religion (some or all, dunno) say I feel there is no point in us being here because someone sitting there 'created' us just for the heck of it. Even when there was no trace of man long back, may be we were a part of something eternal. Neither is the suggestion of the crude rationalist atheists much sensible for me, that we're just born and just die and everything's just over! However I reckon I don't have any much proof to the above, but it makes sense to me! What say? How about you?

1. lotterylover (4757) | 4 months ago | THis is my one life on earth. I would hate to think I had to go through it again. I do believe what the Bible says about our future if we accept Christ as our Savior. I am at peace with the idea that if he doesn't come before I die that I will rest peacefully in my grave, knowing nothing. I am afraid that I would blow my possibility of a resurrection when Christ comes if I believed I had another life to change my ways. That is what Satan told Eve (thou shalt not surely die)and has kept that idea going through one religion or another.

2. tulipstrader (890) | 4 months ago | I have been visiting here ad nauseum. I do believe that we existed before and we have billions of lives, depending on one's karma. I are not created ones, but manifested ones. I don't think we are just born and just die. there is something more than it. on the physical plane or the level of matter, everything changes and destroyed. that is the very nature of it. but what about the soul, the inner spirit? that is not affected by it. it is eternal as it is a trace of the supreme soul.

cannibal (252) | 4 months ago | Hey TulipsTrader, long time no see. Hope you're doing well. Indeed I too find much more sense in manifestation, since if creation were really were the case, we could why actually we were created in the first place! Obviously there would be no satisfactory answer from any creationist religion. However, I don't think there are sufficient proofs for re-incarnation. Indeed there have been overwhelming cases of the same detected in many places, but I guess the scientist community is far better. At least it doesn't believe in anything blindly as the creationists would do! Re-incarnation is not yet an established fact but it looks pretty sensible!

cannibal (252) | 4 months ago | Hey Sudipta Well, there ain't no much room to refute your claims/beliefs, at least from me. Regarding past lives, there have been an overwhelming number of cases not only in India a but various parts of the world. People, even when accidentally exposed to the deeper planes of consciousness have narrated their previous life stories and when tallied after taking into consideration the description of the places, it turned out that those events had actually happened! Besides, numerous enlightened folks have affirmed their past lives. And it's not a miracle or coincidence really. Hypnosis is pure science; and it is based on the sub-consciousness. So I see no reason why on this premise one would disagree with the superior superconsciousness! "Where does the soul come from?" I guess, since it's eternal, there is no such question. "Where were the souls before lives existed?" I think they were and are a part of the Absolute Consciousness (God, may be) According to monism of the Vedanta, every single entity is a part/illusive manifestation of the same Consciousness and after Moksha/Nirvana it becomes one with the same. Of course the Absolute Consciousness is eternal. P.S. All what I've blabbered above is hearsay, borrowed knowledge and my own interpretations. Lol!

5. headhunter525 (1443) | 8 hours ago | I don't think I am eternal. Since the word "eternal" means having no beginning and no end, I don't think I am like that. I think only God is eternal. But I do think that I am immortal. And by that I mean to say that there was a point in time when I came into existence, and from then on I shall live for everlasting, in one form or the other. I don't think unless one considers oneself to be some kind of God, then considering oneself eternal is not possible. The problem with considering oneself as God is that God then ends up doing all sorts of evil thing as well since you and I continue to do evil, in spite of not willing to do evil.

cannibal (252) | 6 hours ago | Yeah that's the basic difference between your beliefs and mine. You consider God and yourself as separate entities.
You're right in your observation that unless you consider yourself as some sort of a God you won't consider yourself eternal. Well, I do consider myself as a part of the divine. (Actually I'm using God just a convention, since my notion of God, I know does not fit with those of many others)
I also feel evil is a part and parcel of the same source. Else, if evil is to be dreaded so much, why does it even exist if there's an omnipotent, omniscient God?
