An Idea Of How To Defend Yourself Against An Intruder

A few years ago, someone told my husband something and he in turn told me which we've found to be a really good idea and so we thought we'd pass it on. When you've gone to bed and an intruder comes in your home or if you hear a noise, do not go investigate! Instead, wait for the intruder to come to you! The reason is simple, it's dark and the intruder's eyes have already adjusted to the darkness so if you were to go looking for him, most likely he/she will have found you first and have the advantage. By waiting for them to come to you, you'll be armed and ready to take the first shot in the event they were to come into your room! I hope I've made some sense here for it's a very wise thing to do. My hubby always keeps a loaded gun in his night stand at night just in case for we never know what may happen. It's best to be safe than to be sorry these days. When we open a window and close it later, we always always lock it so that way when we see a window that's closed, we know that it's locked as well. We're going to be installing lights with motion sensors around our home too for added security. Crime is on the rise and it's best to be safe than to be sorry and is why I'm passing this information on to you!

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the advice. I keep one of those big and heavy flashlights next to the bed just in case there is an intruder and if it ever happens there is someone in the house (god, I hope it never happens) I will remember not to go looking for the intruder

Just remember to keep that flash light off until your bedroom door opens then turn it on to blind the s.o.b.!! Hopefully the intruder will turn and run for his/her life and leave you alone!! Then you can call the police and pray that they catch them! I hope it never happens to you either but if it does, you'll know what to do.

Yeah that sounds like pretty good thinking, I know when my hubby thinks he hears a noise downstairs he goes to investigate straight away and I always worry thinking if someone has broken in then they could do anything. I think its a good idea to wait and be quiet as if nothing has been heard. We need to think more along the lines of added security, my hubby works nights now and I spend a lot of nights alone and it can be quite worrying.

I never in a million years would have thought of this but what a great suggestions - makes perfect since about eyes adjusting to the dark. I am very concerned about the increase in crime and add to that the area I live in is horrid. I don't feel safe at all but can't close all the windows or would be found 'cooked' in the morning with no air... I can't wait to move! Thank you so much for sharing this tip am going to follow it.

What if he doesn't come to you? Maybe he'll take everything from, let's say, living room and run away. That would be pretty funny. Or what if you have kids in the house and you're worried he'll come to them first?

Better that they take everything in the whole dang house than me!! My life is much more important than any material thing, at least to me it is. As for children that are in the house, I'd say listen and listen very carefully to all the intruder is doing and/or where they're at as well as have a phone in your bedroom so you could call the police. I don't find any of this funny at all.

My husband has a large club thing under the bed on his side to be used in self defence should anyone break in. I always have my mobile phone on my bedside table and should I hear a noise I would stay put and ring the police and then my next door neighbour. It has happened to me before when I was home alone. The intruder was outside and I called the police turned the outside lights on and waited, when the Police came they found footprints outside but no one could be seen.

That is really good advice and makes logical sense. The only time I think that it may be more dangerous to wait for the intruder to come to you would be when there are children in the house that could be in danger. In that case, I would probably try to take the intruder by surprise to ensure my kids' safety.

Not a bad idea. I have a bunch of really cool things to use to defend myself, in every room of the house. Once, when I had my old PC set up on the kitchen table, someone came in. I'd forgotten to lock the door. I live in an apartment, and they just wandered into the wrong one. I could see the front door from the kitchen, and when I saw the guy standing there, I grabbed the cast-iron skillet on the stove, and threatened to go at him with it. Needless to say, he got out of here pretty quickly, and I locked the door. LOL It was an honest mistake, but it would have been an honest mistake for me too, had I hit him with the skillet, because you really don't expect random idiots to wander into the apt in the middle of the night either. LOL

That is a really good idea. right now we are in a little apartment so there wouldn't be much time before the intruder gets to my boyfriend and I. I do find that when my bf is visiting his family up in Chicago and I'm alone in the apartment overnight, I do lock my bedroom door. I don't know why I do that but I think it just lets me sleep a little easier.

When somebody intrudes in our house two years ago, I was sleeping until the intruder went out. lol. I woke up by my mom and then she told me that we were being intrude and showed me the broken glass. Luckily, nothing expensive was robbed and he is also lucky that I sleep like a cooking oil. lol. I have my 9mm loaded in my drawer and I can kill him instantly if I had the chance to shoot him.
