Writing Practice

Each of us has a technique to get our writing going for the day. But, alas, sometimes we need a change from the techniques that get us going. For example, methods that help us create and generate new story ideas. I have learned several over the years, but always look for other ways to help kick start my writing, especially when I have a block. Here are a few ideas to help jump start your writing and if you don't mind sharing, that would be wonderful.

"A Thousand Words about Nothing"

This technique is very helpful. Follow the steps and you may come up with a best seller.

1) Look around you and pick an object in your home. For example: the sofa.
2) On the top of a sheet of paper write the word.
3) Draw 2 lines extending off of the word to create the next line. What 2 words pop in your mind when you think of a sofa.
4) Branch of 2 words from each of those words and continue on.
5) Now taking the words that you have branched off, see if you can write a thousand words about your initial subject, the sofa.
