We had to buy a car today, because our car of 12 years died after 221,000 miles.  | |  We were good to the car and we certainly can't complain how it treated us. Twelve years is a long time. For the motor we needed it was about $5,000 not including labor to put it in, so we let it go to car heaven. LOL
Have you ever had a vehicle that was almost a family member? We bought it new as a leftover after we first got married.

We've bought from him before. The first car I bought from him actually died at our house. It was a battery. I was mad. He actually paid to have the battery replaced. | |

Unless you know the history of the car or if the seller certified the battery you can't know how long it will last. I forgot to replace mine in the BMW even though I had planned to do it and it died on me one morning when I went out to the car and I had to get my dad to come because I had not renewed my AAA - a double whammie!
