| | Rainer Marie Rilke's Book of Hours; Love Poems to God. I'm not religious but love this book - depends on what translation you get though - some more poetic. I really recommend this book! | | | | | | |

| | oh and anything by maya angelou and I liked horses make the landscape more beautiful by alice walker ooh and there was this one volume - very old that I got at an estate sale - frogs at twilight - I used to love that book...wow I have alot of favorites but haven't read any in awhile....you could check out carl sandburg too..there is one author I remember the poems to but can't fin! The author was richard thomas and my favorite poems went like this: Caught in iron toothed traps, animals chew off their own feet; I immolate my heart with tongue- even now come embrace me with the darkness - take my words deep inside you - and unspeak me with your eyes... and the other went: Ice is the memory of passion, frozen on an eastern wind, its fragrance lingers moments before a lost kiss Its love shadows vanished in a frozen dawn - I recall your touch - restrained beyond compassion - and it is better lost then barely felt. | | | |

| | Hi842484, well my three favourite poets all spring from different times and countries and each have their own published collections so I'll just go ahead and recommend by name of the poets. For modern I adore Wallace Stevens, American, very lyrical and evoctive. For an older style check out Tennyson, English and often narrative. And then there is the wonderful Baudelaire, French but availble in translation. If you look at and enjoy any of those then there's loads more I can recommend. | | | | | | |

| | My favorite is a silly one, especially for an adult! I love Shel Silverstien. He writes fun poetry for children. So when you ask about a poetry book I immediately think of "Where the Sidewalk Ends" and also "Runny Babbit" those are two of my favorites by Shel Silverstien! | | | | | | |

| | I enjoy Silverstein's poetry as well. I have favorite poems from both A Light in the Attic and Where the Sidewalk Ends. Listen the MUSTN'Ts child, Listen to the DON'Ts. Listen to the SHOULDN'Ts, the IMPOSSIBLEs, the WON'Ts. Listen to the NEVER HAVEs then listen close to me. Anything can happen, child, anything can be. That's possibly my absolute favorite. I am also a huge fan of Dorothy Parker's and definitely recommend the Portable Dorothy Parker. She was highly regarded as a comedic writer in her time but a lot of her writing is actually fairly dark. My favorite of her poems is Resume'. Razors pain you, Rivers are damp. Acids stain you And drugs make you cramp. Guns are unlawful, Nooses give. Gas smells awful, You might as well live. | | | | | | |

| | I studied some good poets at school. Some of my favourites are Philip Larkin, John Betjeman, Ted Hughes and Seamus Heaney. There are a lot of good poets out there. I also enjoy war poems by people like Wilfrid Owen. You will be able to find lots of poetry online and see which styles and poets you prefer, then maybe buy or borrow a collection of their work. | | | | | | |
