Help please. It's gone pink. The screen that is.

Hi zhuhuifen, thanks for the response but think it's rather off the mark here. The screen keeps going pink.

Hi Capsicum, tried that one last year, unplugging it. I've turned it off about 7 times now this morning and for the mo I seem to be having a pink break but the pattern last time is it would return. When it's pink, the letters appear white, so it's less than useless.

Come on computer types, where are you in my hour of need.

Well, if you don't get any better answers, I do keep a BFH handy...in fact, I keep it near my computer at all times...just the threat of seeing it usually makes mine behave...

Well, if the computer guy told me it would cost more to fix it than it was worth, I would probably take a hammer to it...seriously. I've done it before when I finally decided enough was enough with a malfunctioning piece of equipment.

I doubt if there is going to be a simple way to fix it...it will probably involve taking it apart and replacing something...

Have you tried just picking it up and shaking it real hard? If it is just a loose connection, it might work...but if the connection is REAL loose, it may become completely disconnected.

Thank you Lamb, apologies for vicious insults left all over the place.joke. It's ok for now - what I did was turn it off and then kept putting the top bit right back. I have no faith in the opinion of the computer man as he charges by the hour and how am I supposed to know what he's doing that takes so long.
So shake it around a bit but not too vigorously, I'll try that next time.

Hi sunnysmiles, that may have been a completely useless contribution as it did get a bit technical but it was certainly more use than Lamb's contribution above.

I mean talk about waking up in a bad mood just because I got him out of bed at 5am, he could have been a bit more of a gentleman about it, if I had a hammer I know which direction it would be flying in.

I think I'm going to have to see if there is a computer repair section on here.

thea, have you tried doing a Google search? I've put 'laptop screen turning pink' and it's given me a variety of results. Some appear quite technical, others don't, possibly worth a look until a comp. person can help? without a hammer

Good suggestion sunny smiles but I thought one of the advantages with this place was to get questions answered at the speed of light without having to google past all the technical bits. When the laptop had a strange noise rescue was at hand in a couple of minutes and all sorted by my esteemed friend Click. I'm going to have to go and rouse Mike from whereever he's hiding, it worked with Lamb.

Hi Akuler, don't think they are too good at fixing laptops, it's been ok now for this afternoon but last year it kept going at any moment. Don't really see there will be much to be achieved by Lamb's suggestion.
Everything breaks down on me but computer expertise is sadly lacking in this area, not a big thing round here yet.

Mine turn black last time and when I bring it to the shop they said it is a monitor problem. It is expensive to replace it but I am just lucky because mine is still under warranty and can replace it with no charge.

Laptop is more complicated then PC. Their components are very pack. And it's cost more to fix it.

Now regarding the pink behaviour it is behaving today but I think lack of response was due to placing the question in the wrong area, so if further problems occur I will re word it in a more suitable category.

Hi Strongheart, thank you for your almost non technical response. It is very hard to find a reliable technician out here as every single one of them say it needs a new motherboard, not just on this one but on any computer problem I have ever had. I have become completely savvy enough to know not to trust anyone who tells me I need a new motherboard, whatever that may be, but is bloody expensive. I did have a very savvy technician before but he was of the friend variety who didn't require payment but has now returned to Poland, sob, as he even managed to install the necessaries and teach me how to download whilst failing to inform me it was illegal to do so.

It does happen more when the screen is opened or closed but can happen at any moment and last for a short time, or partial screen, or several days. I will follow your advise and keep a record of pink occurrences.

I had a feeling you would say it happens more when opened or closed. This helps. There is a ribbon cable which connects the screen the the circuit boards of the computer and this cable is hidden within the hinges of the screen. By opening and closing, this cable moves a little and has obviously caused a loose connection either where it attaches to the screen or where it attaches to the circuit board.

As I know you don't understand technical - a ribbon cable is a bunch of wires laid side by side and embedded in plastic together to form a flat thin cable. Some are actually just a plastic film with wire elements contained within.

If you are willing to personally supervise and can get a technician to agree to be supervised, you can have him disassemble the laptop and correct this deficiency by making sure he is actually doing what you say per my notes above. I would be very surprised if it needs anything more than a little touch up soldering at the connectors or perhaps just needs the connectors reseated.

Eureka! I have just thought of a simple solution for you! Your laptop should have a connector for an external monitor. When your screen is acting up, you can connect the monitor from your desktop computer! (if the desktop monitor does not display the problem as well, it will prove there is nothing wrong with the mother board!)

Hi Strongheart, sorry for slow response but didn't want to revive this one but someone just has. I think it's as you describe and when and if it starts I've been folding the top bit down backwards and it seems to be working.

The last time I tried linking it to the external monitor the latter had no picture, I know someone who can sort that for me though but he's due on the roof first which is first priority, and then he's been muttering something about a new water tank too.
