Pigglies (5000) | 4 months ago | Thanks! 26.2 miles, so not too bad for a bike ride. I remember when I used to do 40 miles through the hills like it was nothing. This one only has two inclines, not even hills by the standards around here. But finishing it with a good time will be the challenge, since I tend to be a bit slow (my average speed is only 15 mph).

Pigglies (5000) | 4 months ago | It's a mostly flat marathon along the beach (but not in the sand at all).

Pigglies (5000) | 4 months ago | Oh that sounds awesome! Hope you have a lot of fun!
I used to use my bicycle as transportation back before I could afford a car. It was amazing what kind of shape I was in. I could eat absolutely anything I wanted to and you couldn't even get fat to stick to me. I used to ride about 100 miles a week, sometimes more. I was never a very fast rider, but I could always get to wherever I needed to be.
Then I bought a car about 5 years ago and got totally out of shape. I've been trying to pick up my pace lately though, so now I'm up to 20 minutes where I ride at a constant 20 mph. After that I start slowing down again. If I can't maintain the higher speed for at least an hour by the time I get to the marathon, I'll just shoot for my 15 mph normal average speed so that I don't risk not finishing. Otherwise, if I can go for an hour at 20mph then I know I can go the whole time at around that speed.

Pigglies (5000) | 3 months ago | Here the traffic is really bad in a lot of places, but then it's usually so bad that I'm afraid to use the bicycle instead.
Although, before I even started running for fun/exercise, my brother was graduating high school and I was stuck in traffic. I finally get there with not much time to spare, but there is no parking left! I ended up having to drive back to my house, and then run all the way there (it seems like before I only would run if I had to, but it was still killing me to run 3 miles back then when I wasn't used to running). I barely got there in time, and then my parents yelled at me for forgetting my camera. Oops. At least they had their camera though.
I think once I do this marathon I'll still continue cycling. It's pretty fun.

Pigglies (5000) | 4 months ago | Thanks! I'm starting to think this should be really fun. I'm going to go on a semi-long practice ride Monday morning to see how I'm doing now as far as being in shape.
