Why do Filipinos start celebrating Christmas in September? |
|
Yesterday is the first day of September, and Filipinos are known to start celebrating Christmas when the Ber months start.
I already saw a TV show doing this, and I know others will follow. Christmas parols are now starting to sell, and we may now start to hear Christmas carols.
It is also known that season here in the Philippines will start to get colder.
So, why do you think Filipinos start celebrating Christmas in September?
Thanks!

Here in US it starts after Thanksgiving day at the last week of November, generally. The season ends after New Year. We do not even wait for the Feast of Three Kings. Based on what I have heard, the Philippines is the country who has the longest Christmas season in the world! Is this true?

September, October, November, and December are Christmas for Filipinos and it extends until February and for some, March. I even know some people who keeps their Christmas decorations in place until the start of the Holy Week which is in April. What I really find so ironic about a lot of Filipinos is that they keep on complaining how hard life is and how high prices are when in fact they are celebrating Christmas that long. I mean I know somebody who really cooks and lets his neighbors go to there house to eat and keeps on complaining that he always fall short on cash because the prices are high. lols

Personally, I always got excited when the month of September is coming and always look forward for a wonderful Christmas holiday.

As a Catholic nation, Philippines had the most spectacular form of Christmas celebration as a tribute to the child Jesus. The "mesa de gallo" or the Early dawn mass, a nine-day novena leading to Christmas day, is the most memorable.

3. aseretdd (6843) | 3 months ago | When i was in grade school... that was the time when the climate was still like normal... very little talk about global warming... when September comes... the weather becomes a little colder... so that means the end of the long hot summer sun... rains will come but not the very strong ones... so people start preparing for Christmas... since the cold weather is always associated with this holiday...
So now... even if it is still blazing hot in September... some people still consider this as the start of the Christmas season... so Christmas does start early in the Philippines...

They start also to decorate their houses and offices. My mother also did that but now she told us that she pass it on to us I'm very lazy to decorate. Christmas now is only for children.

4. abbypringles (817) | 3 months ago | I know, but i am not complaining. I love the holiday season and when the calendar enters the -ber months, the spirit of joviality and celebration begins. I guess that is just the way Filipinos are, which reflect the value to put into this particular time of the year.:)

8. rsa101 (7316) | 3 months ago | Of all the celebrations here in the Philippines Christmas is the favorite holidays here in our country. that is why as early as September many things that remind us of Christmas are being introduced already. That means we are starting to look forward for that day to come to us. So when the "Ber" months do come we start on our Christmas mode already. By the next two months it will become more prominent to see and hear things about Christmas again.

| 9. gomaeann (32) | 3 months ago | It is because September is the beginning of the BER months. Every year filipinos start our Christmas spirit at the 1st BER of the month and that is SEPTEMBER. And YES, September is the time that start to get cold, or should I say rainy season because we don't have winter here.
