do you respond to older discussions... email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 81/100. jb78000 (1628)   ranked 331 out of 32,322 in mylot.com3 months ago

...or stick with new ones. to be honest i've been mainly responding to fresh ones but i suspect there are a lot of interesting older ones. i'm considering starting to remember to look at the list of similar discussions that comes up when you respond, and even, maybe, going to friends' profiles and looking through their lists of discussions they've started. if i have time.

Yes, in fact the oldest discussion that I have ever replied to was 3 year's old. I see no reason why we shouldn't respond to an older discussion. Some of the interest's that I like don't have any new replies, but where I was interested I replied any way's.

i wouldn't be sure where to find a discussion that old

myLot reputation of 78/100. mysdianait (11835)   ranked 2,593 out of 32,322 in mylot.com  3 months ago

Old discussions appear on the right>>>>>
if they have recent activity
or you can find them in your friends' profiles under 'started discussions' on the very first pages ofthe profiles of those who joined a long time ago.

myLot reputation of 81/100. jb78000 (1628)   ranked 331 out of 32,322 in mylot.com  3 months ago

i've seen that, and the possibility of trawling through a user's old discussions. was just wondering where, if anywhere, old discussions without much recent activity might be found?

Hi jb,

At the moment I tend to only respond to newer discussions because I can never be sure whether creators want me to reply to their older discussions or not. I think when I start to delve into my interest categories a little more I might start to reply to older discussions, but only if there hadn't already been a BR chosen since it means there is a greater chance that I can add something new to the conversation. Not sure what the oldest i have replied to had been though, maybe a week?

All the best,
Dranz thumbup

myLot reputation of 81/100. jb78000 (1628)   ranked 331 out of 32,322 in mylot.com  3 months ago

speaking personally, i'd enjoy old discussions being continued. i'm sure you could add something when you have an opinion even when the br has been chosen - some people do them very quickly.

myLot reputation of 97/100. thea09 (4129)   ranked 154 out of 32,322 in mylot.com  3 months ago

You are missing out DC, sometimes I put a BR on to tidy up my unresolved but there's still rooms for lots of fun, see my advice below on this matterthumbupprofile stalking is highly recommended.

Hi jb, I often respond to older discussions, just think of the fun you can have there, all those lovely ripe ones just sitting there without a single comment, that's good for a laugh when I'm fed up of stating my coffee and ice cream preferences. thumbup
Just think of the fun too of hitting someones profile and reviving an oldie they've forgotten all about and couldn't care less about anymore and now they are forced through politeness to get back on the case.
And it's all such a waste when there's bombed discussions sat there just because your new frinds haven't seen them.
If you have the inclination you are quite welcome to profile rummage amongst my old ones, I used to be really bad at titles so lost a lot of good ones that way, kamaki was my favourite one, along with severed heads. lol

myLot reputation of 81/100. jb78000 (1628)   ranked 331 out of 32,322 in mylot.com  3 months ago

might do, although i'm a little worried about your concern with severed heads

myLot reputation of 97/100. thea09 (4129)   ranked 154 out of 32,322 in mylot.com  3 months ago

A perfect example of bad titling, if I'd just called it severed heads it wouldn't be lingering unvisited somewhere as surely it would have been opened out of curiosity at least, what did I go and stick it under being crypitc - BASILthumbdown And whatever happened to the fascinating history of toilets, I'm sure the title didn't even mention them. I'm really bad at titles.

Severed heads are great fun, highly recommended, I keep two of my own. thumbup

i move in sequence and respond to what catches my attention. dates do not really matter. but yes time is a factor and also how many interesting discussions are there. i other words it depends how much time it takes me to move down the sequence.

myLot reputation of 81/100. jb78000 (1628)   ranked 331 out of 32,322 in mylot.com  3 months ago

yes, for me it depends how many interesting discussions i find interesting there are.

There are times that I follow a lead from a discussion which brings me out to another discussion that is several months old.

I am once in a while tempted to regenerate the conversation if the owner of the discussion is a name that is familiar to me - otherwise I tend to leave them.

There were some that I have seen that looked interesting, but were three years old and had not had any input since - in a way the opening for starting a discussion on the same theme?

The one other thing that struck me was following discussions on politics - were the discussions two years ago coming from the other flank and shooting the same sort of hyperbole at Bush that they are now shooting at Obama? Maybe some of those need reviving. Though maybe not, it is the hyperbole that needs toning down and the bias that needs to be measured and rationalised.

myLot reputation of 81/100. jb78000 (1628)   ranked 331 out of 32,322 in mylot.com  3 months ago

i think if i saw an old discussion that looked interesting i'd check the profile of the person who started it to see if they were still active. some people have been active here for years. good luck with toning down the hyberbole, and indeed finding rational arguments in the politics bit (except of course from me)

I would say doing this is a very good ideathumbup
There are some excellent older discussions and your new response could easily get the discussion going again especially if the member who posted the discussion is still active.
If you want a link to a profile that is a goldmine of really good discussions going back a few years send me a PM.
This particular member is still very active and really does have some good and varied discussion topics.

I responded on a couple of his the other week and they then picked up a few extra responses as a result.

I mainly stick to new discussions I just turn my friends "on" and respond to theirs and then if I see anything I want to respond to in that interest I will.
