OMG!!!! vitamins will be illegal from 31 december 2009 |
| |
| I received this email today and I thought I would share it with you guys... Dear Friends, I know some of you will be familiar with this, for others you may no be aware of what parliament is about to do in your name.. Codex Alimentairus is a law designed to hand over the control of natural remedies to the pharmaceutical giants. One more attempt to regulate us - with potentially dire consequences. Unless we take this last opportunity and act now we will not be able to buy vitamins or health/nutritional supplements without a doctor's prescription - they will be banned from 31st December 2009. You may think this can't happen, you may think why haven't I heard about this before. The reason is that there are vested interests, giant multinational pharmaceutical companies, and its not in their interest that you know about and oppose this. They and our lawmakers in Europe are banking on public apathy. Despite considerable pressure already exerted our government is still planning to implement this law UNLESS THERE IS MASSIVE OPPOSITION IT WILL GO AHEAD. Like many health and safety matters this was started with good intentions, in 1962 by the United Nations, to establish international free trade foods but has become a major threat to our civil liberties and freedom of choice. As the song says: YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE GOT TILL ITS GONE Please, sign the petition to the Prime Minister . . It takes 10 seconds! This is for our health, and well-being and the health and well-being of our children. Please click on this link below ... http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Vitamins/ http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Vitamins/ For more information google Opposition to Codex Alimentarius or look on Facebook and you'll see that the threat is very real and opposition is from people from all walks of life, in many countries. W T F????? I bet next they are going to say that cocaine, marijuana and heroin will be legal.. bloody hell what's the world coming too?? | | | | | |

| | Hi jellymonty, this is actually something which has been foreseen for a while. I think that the Greek government will continue to allow sales but they have already paved the way by using the exorbitant prices for extra taxes and narrowing the ability for first drugs, and nextly vitamins, to be brought in from abroad. I'm glad you've passed information on regarding the date so at least we can stock up well out here, from abroad, before this ban has a chance to be implemented. The first stage of the ban was the reduction in ability to buy natural health products, for the same reason. If the ban does not come into effect then you might see prices like the ones out here where it costs 12 euros for 20 vitamin C tablets. | | | | | | |

| | Hi Jelly baby! I heard about this a while ago but I didn't realise it was imminent. I did hear there was a court battle going on to preserve the old herbal remedies and grandmas special medicines. Places like Holland and Barratt will go out of business if they can't sell the St John's Wort etc. I will sign the petition too as I think the pharmaceutical (had to check my spelling against yours there :P) industry wields too much power and I've even heard GPs got a bonus for prescribing certain ones. Shocking I know! I suppose there is a case to answer in that most home remedies haven't gone thru rigorous testing for side effects etc, but I know if I get stung by a nettle in future I will still look for the nearest dock leaf. Nature has always provided it's own medicine, we have just forgotten what to look for. Sad really :( | | | | | | |

| | actually my mum thinks its brilliant that they are making it illegal.. she said it would now make people realise that fruits and vegetables are natural vitamins which are better than tablets and capsules.. | | | |

| | I think I didn't read your discussion properly. :P I was talking about health foods in general and not specifically vitamins. I agree in the main with your mum, but sometimes you do need supplements to your diet. The government have just announced that they recommend women of child bearing age to take folic acid as a supplement to reduce the risk of spina bifida in unborn children. | | | |

| | While I do agree that fruits and veggies are the best source of vitamins we dont Always get all the vitamins we need so'even ou r doctors will suggest we buy vitamins over the counter as in combination with our good diet the over the counter vitamins can be most beneficial to our health. | | | |

| | i may agree at one point that people may now look back to fruits and vegetables for source of vitamins which are natural source and way much better than what we get from capsules or table forms. but i think that it is still too harsh that they will not allow for vitamins to be bought without any prescriptions. still even those who take a lot of fruits and vegetables every day still may need some vitamins or minerals in tablet forms so having the need to go to the doctor to ask for prescription just to be able to buy these vitamins are lot of hassle and actually an added expense on the part of the people. | | | |

| | hi jellymonty Well I am more glad than ever that I am an American in the US because we have no problem buying any vitamins we want. I think that that is just dreadful. What on earth is the thinking on that? I mean vitamins I thought were easily available all over, and my I am wrong on that. the beauty of mylot is that we learn so much about what is going on in other countries. it really is a small world after all. and what affects one country may well affect us all. I hate the ideao f vitamins being illegal. thats just asinine. | | | | | | |
