Why Are Motorcycles To Damn LOUD?   

You are not the only affected by this, I also have always hate motorcycles as well, as opposed to most people I know. The appeal of it being noisy may be attribute to the fact that it draws other people's with such basic interests attention. Meh.

I witnessed an bike/van accident in August of 1980. The former roomie and I had just been commenting on the noisy bike about 3 blocks before the accident, when we both had been stopped at a red light at the same time and the bike had been next to us.

So, I can answer for some of the riders... since we got the chance to ask him while we drove him home (after EMS checked him out)

He told us that a lot of them like them loud because they have a better chance of being heard than seen, because people just don't see them - witness the old guy that turned right in FRONT of him, causing the accident!

You are not the only one who is bothered. Motorcycles are very noisy and sometimes hurt my ears. When I was growing up, my brother had a motorcycle, a dirt bike and we got to go out riding. We would camp out in a camper or trailer and ride motorcycles over hills. It was a lot of fun so I can see the appeal of riding a motorcyle. The problem with street bikes though is that so many people don't see them (or just choose not to pay attention) and if you are in an accident, then your chances of death are so much higher than when you are in a car. I hope my grandsons never want one when they grow up.

You are exactly right about this. I hate a loud vehicle or a loud motorcycle. It gets on my nerves when people buy special items to make them even louder also. I think there should be noise polution control put into place.

I'm not really a fan of motorcycles either, and I sometimes get annoyed when an especially loud one goes by. I try not to be bothered because everyone has their right to ride--but still, I just can't help it. I can understand the thrill that people get when they ride them, and I'm sure that I'd actually really enjoy riding one if I ever got around to it, but it's hard for me to not see the sudden loud noise as obnoxious at times. And it's not just motorcycles, but also just loud cars in general.

Its a guy thing, you can't do anything about it.

I ride a motorcycle but I don't rev up when I'm riding through towns and villages. I go very slow if I pass horses or cyclists and I'm considerate to other people. I think young lads are mainly the culprits for making a noise and showing off, riding too fast and not caring about other people.

Please don't think badly of all of us!!! Some of us are responsible.
