Did you ever pick up somebody's unwanted furnitures?

Maybe it just me, or other people who learn to save money. Sometimes, I just pick up someone's unwanted furnitures, such as desk, chairs, and sofa, as long as they are in Okay condition. I don't mind to carry them home, and clean them up a little bit. As I moved in my new apartment, I had nothing at all. I just pick up some of friend's old or unwanted furnitures, and furnished my humble apartment home. Would you do the same? Or you rather spend $1,000 to purchase brand new?

I do that only when i know the person who owns the unwanted furnitures... like i was given a bed and little tykes by a friend who was migrating to a different country... and since i needed another bed and the little tykes was for my 3 year old... i gladly took them... i don't see anything wrong with this one... because with the current economic crisis... we all need to do everything we can in order to survive...

i AGREE, but usually they would rather ask for some compensation for the stuff they giving up. It would be totally different concept of get it for free. Some of them might just give it to you for free.

For me, my brother - in - law has a pick up truck that I can borrow to pick stuff up sometimes. So, if there is a great condition of furniture out there, I simply go pick it up and carry it back home.

When I was in college - I did a whole lot of picking up other people's old furniture. With the exception of mattresses - I wouldn't mind using other people's furnitures as long as it's in good condition. Just clean it up a bit - buy some covers (if necessary) and walllahhh, an almost brand-spankin new furniture. To be used in the next 2-3 years. Save $$ and save the environment!

yeah, that is what I am talking about. If you have hygenie problem, it won't be recommended. I would rather have you buy the brand new. For me, I am just plain poor, and I won't mind to use used furnitures.

I have picked up unwanted furniture! As long as it's clean or can be cleaned, I don't see anything wrong with that (depending on the piece of furniture, of course). I have gotten things from Craigslist or Freecycle - and in most cases, the person would be honest to say if they've had pets or was from a smoke-free home. I've gotten decent used coffee tables, outdoor furniture, tvs, bookshelves and more!
