Did you ever have a job when you were still in school? If so, what was it? |
|
Well, I'm fifteen years old and I live in a place where people working at my age is practically unheard of. Though, I work by writing articles on the internet and earn money so I don't have to ask my parents for money. Everyone I know wonders at this job and can't wrap their head around how I get paid or how I got the job considering my age.
I know in other countries jobs for teens are completely normal and are available in a lot of places.
So did you ever have a summer job or job while you were in school? And what was it? Do you have any experiences at your job that you've been able to apply to life? Or any funny experiences you'd like to share?

1. learn2earn (10481) | 3 months ago | While I was in elementary, I tried to work for money because my parents can't give me some allowance and I envy those other kids who have money to buy snacks. I tried to do some errands but I didn't succeed much. When I was in high school, I remember that I teamed up with another high school boy and we work in a furniture shop. After that we work with a house as carpenters. In my college life, I work as a security at age 17 in three different places. It's difficult but it's a learning experience for me. Have a wonderful day.

2. gossipzz (361) | 3 months ago | That is great for you. Having a job in summer is great. You earn that little extra for you. Do not for forget that school is your priority right now. I think I started working around the same time aswell. My first job was in a daycare as a helper. It was also in the summer month. I still had time to hangout with my friends. I earned money for the extra clothing my parents could not afford to give me. Happy lotting.

| 3. pandabear707 (31) | 3 months ago | yes, I worked at ritas water ice. Good job and cheap water ice at the end of the day. I remember one time I tried to turn on this ice cream maker and it wouldn't stop. The other workers didnt notice until I yelled for help! I didnt even get fired! The most funnest moment ever. We tried to stop it with pans and we even gave out ice cream for 1.00 each a large. My boss got mad at me but he understood it wasn't my fault. I was just doing my job.:)

KaraKATAD (168) | 3 months ago | That's so cool! We don't have those things here since we don't have newspapers delivered by kids. Especially since some people live up hills and whatnot. Not to mention, driving around on a bike is pretty dangerous too, since people don't always pay attention to traffic rules here.

6. scarlet_woman (8800) | 3 months ago | yea,i had a McJob at 15.then later i worked on the military base. um..the only thing i really learned on that job is exactly how impatient people can be.i didn't work so much for myself at the time, but to help my dad out because he got laid off from his job.
teens can work here, but you have to get a permit from the school, which is ridiculous,it should be the parent's decision only.

|
KaraKATAD (168) | 3 months ago | Oh cool a military base! Yep, people can definitely be impatient a lot. Especially nowadays with so much technology. It's nice that you tried to help your dad when he was having a hard time. And a permit? That's strange. I've never heard of that. I agree that it should be the parent's and the child's decision.

scarlet_woman (8800) | 3 months ago | it is strange.i'm not sure if that's a my town thing,or if others have it. but it's more or less an unspoken agreement the kid will still go to school.

7. SomeCowgirl (7976) | 3 months ago | When I was 17 I had a job my senior year as a waitress. It lasted four days and I was annoyed at the waitresses and quit plus the fact that I was not able to do my homework as I wished too. I was used to going to bed early so going to bed later effected me. Though even before I did my homework in the morning at school in the cafeteria. It was just common for me to do it then, or before the teacher started teaching in a class or classes.
In any case, I have had jobs since then, at one point I had two jobs at the same time. As for funny experiences I can't think of any though I know I've had a few at one job.

|
KaraKATAD (168) | 3 months ago | That's really cool, waiting on people sounds like fun. I'd like to try it in the future just for the experience. It's a good thing that you quit though, so that you could spend more time doing your school work, since it is really important. Well I hope you had a good time at your jobs. Thanks for the response!

| 8. polkadotbettie (5) | 3 months ago | I had several jobs while I was still in school. I began by babysitting when I was 14, and when I was 16 got a part time job at McDonald's. From there, I also worked at a grocery store, and then another fast food place. I can't really say that I gained a lot of work experience, but I did learn a lot of responsibility, and found out what it was like to earn my own money. I think it made me more careful of money since I found out what I had to do to get it! I did enjoy my job at McDonald's, since I worked with two friends. We would sing songs and tell jokes while we worked, which certainly made the time go by!

KaraKATAD (168) | 3 months ago | That's cool, babysitting must be fun since you get to spend time with kids. Oh cool! McDonald's. I tried working at McDonald's but I wasn't paid though. Grocery stores sounds like a lot of fun too. And I'm glad you were able to learn responsibility and the value of money. It's nice that you had friends at your job too so you could have a good time.

9. cjfoust (462) | 3 months ago | I did have a job while I was in school. At one time I had two part time jobs and went to high school, that is until my grades started dropping and my mother made me quit one of the two part time jobs. It was good money and very rewarding for a few months though. I learned a lot in my younger working years that help me today. My first job was being a waitress at a small sandwhich shop/ice cream restaurant. I was 15 then. I learned a lot of people skills and how to work with others as a team. When I first started I was very shy; however, by the time they closed up shop, I had moved up to a shift supervisor. It was a great place to work with regulars that came once a week to once a day. The steak and cheese sub there was the best around! Now, even 10 years later, I still think about that place.

KaraKATAD (168) | 3 months ago | Well it must have been hard to have two jobs at the same time. It's a good thing you decided to focus on your school though since it is important. An ice cream restaurant! That sounds like a lot of fun. And I'm glad that you moved up in rank. It's good that you still keep it in your memories and I hope you have a good day!

10. twowizdom (600) | 3 months ago | hi there KaraKATAD,
actually, im also a student and currently studying. I also live in a country where teens having a job/summer job is kinda weird or not normal but in spite that I really want to have one just to earn some money during summer but its really hard to find one since most places require someone to be at least 18 or so. That's why I really haven't got the chance to even try having a job but I would really won't pass an opportunity if someone would ask me if I want one.lol
| |
| |
|
|
KaraKATAD (168) | 3 months ago | Oh that's nice that we have similar situations. It's true that we would usually have to be 18 or above, which sucks really. But I'm glad your open to opportunities. Thanks for the response and happy mylotting!
