Has myLot Nearly Cost You Your House? |
|
I have just learned that if I'm going to be a myLotter, I had better stay away from the stove.
Sitting here engrossed in the discussions, I suddenly realized I was hungry, so I went down to put a couple of hot dogs on the stove. I came back to read and reply to a few more discussions while I waited for them to cook and totally forgot about them. The next thing I knew the smoke alarm scared the bejeesus outta me. "oh no, the hot dogs!"
The smoke was ridiculous and the hot dogs were so glued to the pot I had to throw it out. I was never so scared in my life. I thought the house was gonna go up for sure. Thank God it's breezy so I was able to clear the smoke pretty quickly. I'll never do that again. From now on no myLotting while cooking.
Has being so involved in myLot ever brought any of you to a close call like that?
xoxo Cyne

3. dbutheking (319) | 6 months ago | ..lol.. That's so funny... That's a good decision. No myLotting while cooking.. I have no such problems. I will use myLot only when i got wake up so early and during that time my internet is unlimited free.. So, during that time only i use myLot mostly.. I have free internet access during 2am to 8am.. So, i download some movies that time and parallelly using myLot. I use it mostly from 5am to 6 am and go to sleep again and wake up at 8 am for my daily works.. sometimes i may woke at 4 or 4.30..
Have a great day.

CynergyDiva (138) | 6 months ago | Yeah it's funny now dbu. But it sure wasn't at the time. My heart was beating so fast, and I was frantically trying to fan the smoke out with my tea towel. The smell is still there though. I hope it's gone before my boyfriend gets back.

dbutheking (319) | 6 months ago | I know that it wasn't funny at that time. I have been embarassed many times before friends and feel bad that time and when i remember that it looks funny for me. Sometimes somethings not looks funny when it happen and it is funny when we remember it later.

CynergyDiva (138) | 6 months ago | It's true; it's so easy to get caught up in this. I've often said to myself, "okay, I'll just quickly see if there's new responses and that's it." Next thing I know I'm thinking, okay I'll just cheque the new discussions, then okay I'll just cheque the ones with no responses. While I'm doing that, I'll get an email that there's a response to a discussion I'm in. It's a vicious circle. I'm supposed to be building a website for my Toastmasters club and before I know it, I've been myLotting for 3 hours.

5. emilie2300 (1165) | 6 months ago | Oh my goodness. I am glad you are okay. I have never done anything like this before.
But I do know how involved my lot can be. It is very addicting and you don,t want to give up on discussions and responding..
Honestly that,s why I hate cooking. It could be the easiest thing like hot dogs or noodles. I just get afraid of getting so occupied and forgetting and having something left on the stove.
Try to be careful. I am glad it was nothing to serious. It could of been worse. Good thing it was not...
Take care Happy My lotting to you

|
CynergyDiva (138) | 6 months ago | Thanks emilie. I do plan on being more careful. From now on I'll be standing over the food 'til it's done. However, when you want to get back to myLot, even microwaving something for 60 seconds seems like forever.

CynergyDiva (138) | 6 months ago | Yeah. In fact, from another discussion I was in about being patient I said that I believe it was the invention of the microwave that started the decline of peoples' patience.

6. rosekiss (5101) | 6 months ago | I will mylot while I am cooking too, but I do go check on my food once in awhile, as it is easy to just sit here in mylot, and forget I even have anything on the stove. Most of the things I do, go in the microwave, so I just wait for it ot beep then I go eat. I am so glad to hear though that your house was saved, and most of all that you are alright. I am sure that had to be scary for you. I know, somtehing like that would literally freak me out. When I do cook on the stove though, I find it much easier to just close mylot out, that way I can concentrate on the food do that nothing would happen. Especially at my age, as I live alone and it would be devastating to say the least if something should happen. I hope it never does. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

7. patofgold23 (1668) | 6 months ago | mylot costs me one whole pizza too!my son was so mad at me...that was his dinner.. I took it out of the fridge and placed it on the electric stovve,he likes the edges crunchy...but the timer is broken so i just told myself to check on it every few minutes..
one whole pizza cooks for about 10 miinutes in out stove at high settings.
I was so engrossed with the many discussions...and when i remembered the pizza it was too late.. you can't even eat just the center ..it's so stiff and burnt ..
can make a good frisbee though...........
I am glad we had a few canned goods lying around...

CynergyDiva (138) | 6 months ago | LOL. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. You should have just played it off to your son, "well, you like the edges crunchy, so here you go." LOL
Yeah I was happy we had some peanut butter. That's what I ended up having.

I put in an individual pizza inthe oven and went back mylot to type and wait for it to cook,i forgot it and only the smell of something burning brought me backinto the kitchen, seems the smoke alarms battery had gone dead. my pizza looked liked a black frizby.I could have burned the house down but luckily I did not do that. wow.we also got the landlord to put in new batteries in our smoke detector.

10. horsesrule (1800) | 6 months ago | Wow, no, that hasn't happened to me yet. Thank goodness you and your house are okay. That would have scared the bejeesus out of me too. Now I will admit to overcooking food because I was on the computer, there might even have been black spots and food stuck to the bottom of the pan and it might have needed to be thrown in the trash, but that's all I'll admit too! LOL
| |
| |
|

CynergyDiva (138) | 6 months ago | Well far be it from me to make you admit to more than that horsesrule. But I think we all know the truth here. . . LOL
And that pot I had to throw out was bloody expensive too.
