I think you should just tell her. If she is a girl worth even spending 100.00 on then she will understand. In these tough times not everyone has even that much to spend on a date. You don't want someone that is with you only for what you can give them do you? How long have you been dating this person? I'm asking because if I have not been with a man for a long time then I would not ask them for such gifts. Then again, If I had been with a man for a considerable time, I would know his financial status and even then....would not ask for a gift. I guess it's just me but I would prefer the gift to be a surprise. I am not one to ask for things from someone I'm seeing nor do I expect them. I from time to time see a man that is extremely wealthy and I don't expect or want gifts at all from him. I just enjoy his company and for me that is what is important.

Tell her the truth. If she's furious, be glad you found out her true nature early! If she's the right sort, she'll just shrug, smile and go on as if nothing happened. Best wishes.

well the girl should understand that she cannot ask anything inbetween the fun and excitement where shopping was not a plan at all. you may start another topic or discussion and move from the place, then its the girl's turn to understand that and move up further without another talk of the gift.
