The mother board has (usually) two slots for RAM memory cards. Now, when you upgrade the RAM it just means putting in a higher capacity RAM card so that you, for example, increase the memory from 1 Gb to 2 Gb. However, having said that, there is a limit to how much RAM memory your motherboard can support, and if you already have the maximum RAM installed that can be supported, then you can't add more.
To add more RAM you'll need to consult the motherboard handbook to see what type of memory card it needs and what the maximum amount of RAM the motherboard will support.

You can upgrade your ram based on the result of the scan as it tells you how much you can install. A couple of other questions though. Do you have a desktop or a laptop? Also, when you upgrade your ram you don't need to reinstall windows or anything like that. You have never opened up or been inside your system have you, assuming that it's a desktop you have? If you purchase the Ram from the cruicial website after having carried out the scan then you need to open up your system and install it but you have to be very careful here as there is something called ESD or Electo Static Discharge. Whenever doing anything inside your pc you have to ground yourself as it were. ESD can damage your motherboard inside the pc, ESD is a small electric charge and destroy your computer chips. Anyway, to protect the computer whilst working inside there's something called agroupd bracelet or ESD bracelet. You wear this on your wrist and attatch the other end to the back of your pc on a metal port then you can get on with what you have to do safely. You also need to hold the RAM very carefully on the edges and not touch the chips on the side or the metal connectors on the bottom. Anyway, I know that there's a lot of information here but don't worry, take it bit by bit. I would recommend that if you are not that confident you take your pc to a local repair shop and have them install the ram for you. The first thing you should do though before anything is try and get onto the cruicial website and run the scan to full completion so that it gives you all the information you need. Let me know when you have done that then we can talk about the next part. I have another suggestion whereby I can give you one on one technical support by the means of something called remote assistance. I don't know if you have heard of this but it basically means you give me permission to have a look at your computer screen on my computer and sort out your problem, you see the mouse move, that's me moving it but you retain control and you end the session anytime you want by pressing any key. If so, let me know and I will add you as a friend and then give you my private email address via private message. It's a safe service and all operating systems have remote assistance built into them. I'm a qualified IT Technician but don't worry, no charge whatsoever, I'm just happy to assist you in anyway I can. Anyway, let me know how you get on. If the scan is a problem due to your computer running slow etc then you can try a couple of things. Go to your start menu bottom left of screen then select programs then select Accessories and finally select system tools. There should be some useful tools there like disk cleanup, run this and this will get rid of a lot of files and things you don't need. I run this on a regular basis. Anyway, that's it for now, a lot of information I know but it's always about taking it step by step. All the best. Andrew

4. ferdzNK (2326) | 3 months ago | Your mobo Asus P5kpl-Am/ps has two slot that uses DDR2 memory module, you cannot use DDR1 here or any other type. You currently have 512 RAM, some portion of it is used by you built-in video, it's considered small these days and the price of a 1G(or 2G) DDR2 is not much.
You now identified your RAM type which is DDR2 next to now is its speed. Your mobo can support 1066, 800 or 667 MHz (1066 is the better faster choice). If your planning to buy just 512 to have 1G then determine you existing 512 speed and match with that. If you want to replace that with 1G(or 2G) then get the 1066MHz speed.
Here is your mobo specs if you need it http://www.cyberindian.ne...

5. shankarbaddi (472) | 3 months ago | RAM means Random Access Memory. Up gradation of your RAM depends on various factors that is does your mother board support it. Is the RAM slot correct or not. Ask your computer person who what kind of mother board is yours and does that support DDR 2 RAM. It also has frequency make sure you opt for 800MHz
