If you didnt go but have just heard about it what's your perception on what the event was and what happened at the event?I've always been interested in hearing what people thought about this time in history. I just finished a watching documentary on this concert and the idea of it just blows my mind. I feel it was such a beautiful thing. Did anyone here go to wood stock? What was it like?Any stories from friends who went?My mother was 16 when Woodstock happened but she was from a very religous family that would never EVER allow her to go to this event.
Did you know the two people in this picture are still together today? They met at Woodstock and someone took this picture of them there. Later it became the album cover for the Woodstock cd. Today they look sooo different. Cool story.

I just saw a documentary about Woodstock on the History Channel a few weeks ago. It kinda made me wish I was there. The unity was amazing, and I couldn't believe that the only "violent" thing that happened there was some guy getting bopped over the head with a guitar because he wanted to jump on-stage. I think my generation really needs another Woodstock, just so that they will "get it," ya know? Something should have happened during these 8 years of war, just like in '69. But hey, the war is still raging; we still have time. :)

I don't want to spoil your optimism and I am not a pesimist eithr. Also I'm not paranoic.
Yet, the only good explanation for the fact that another Woodstock '69 won't happen is that there are secret services taking care for such a thing not to happen again.
Woodstock '69 was an mass opening minds event. To quote Geroge Carlin, "owners of this country (USA) does not want people able to think, they want obedient workers .."
Sad, but true. And not only in US ..

Yea, but I'm sure the government didn't want it to happen in '69 either. But it did. Just goes to show you that the government ain't all high-and-mighty as most of us think. I'm sure if we really wanted to do it again, we could. But there's so much anger and violence in the USA (as well as other countries, but I'm talking about the USA now) that it's almost impossible to duplicate the original Woodstock.

Sure didn't wanted. They were taken by surprise and fact they declared that area as "emergency status" and call National Guard while the festival was already half way .. I saw a documentary about Woodstock 69 and chief of local police was suprised why National Guard was called for duty .. people from the village were been interviewed and spoked only nice words about "those kids" ...
However, it never happen again .. govt learned fast.
And one more thing: that time secret services were at begining .. were not settled all over .. and in today days, hell, they have "tools" to control and close watch anything and anybody ..

You must think that that woodstock you are talking about wa back in 1969.
Suposing average age of people who were there was 20 to 25 at that time, while we are talking about an event 40 years a go .. so those "veterans" would have 60-65 years or more.
I am not so sure so many people at that actual age are on the net ...
Anyway, Woodstock '69 was a turn point for humanity. Had changed lifes, music, points of view .. and probably also helped to be created a special fbi/cia divisions to handle the anti-war issues :-P
Anyway .. you are a 22 y old ? I feel proud of you ! So few young people of today days reach to aknowledge and appreciate things like woodstock '69 ..
I was 5 at the time and also tousends of miles away .. but when I was able to understand what is happening around me, soon I find out about that festival I fall for it. One of my fav singers all-time are from those who were there .. Joan Baez, Country Joe McDonalds, Santana, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin and so on ..

Ya know, at that time music not only was good but also the lyrics were very ... appealing. Lot of lyrics from that time are social.
On modern music of today, most of social lyrics are now rushing into rap songs, yet I see a great (and bad) influence trying to turn off the social message from songs .. replacing it with stupid verses more suitable to make mussic be just another merchendise, a product good only for trade.
In my humble opinion, music is for knowledge what is math for science. Or salt for food. Air for life.

Thanks for the compliment. I really am just 22 but I'm also a musician and I've been listening to music from this time period and years before since I was younger but I also have a big love for a lot of todays artist. I respect all kinds of music and artist. I really don't like the people who put down other artists calling them fake or bad. We don't know anyone well enough to make those assumptions about others.

I wasn't born when Woodstock happened but my boyfriend was there and the way he and others that I know talk about it, it was the concert to end all concerts. It had to have been amazing! For a lot of people it changed their lives. The people that met there, the people who had a trancendental experience, etc. My bf says there was even one baby born there at the festival and I am sure numberous babies were conceived during that event.
It was probably the only concert where they announced over the sound system which acid not to take and had tents where people talked and walked people down off of bad acid trips.I think that there was a spirit at that event that will never be equaled at any other concert anywhere at any time.

I have not been. I really have no idea if anyone I know has been there. I think that it was great. With all the bad and ugly I think we need to have a Woodstock resurrection!!

Hi Bstuff
No I don't know of anyone who went to Woodstock but with such a large crowd you would think someone would know someone who did, thats a good question I wouldn't be surprised if someone responded back to you here on Mylot saying that they either were or knew someone who was because as I stated earlier that crowd was so huge it looked like half the world was there LOL
