How many of you out there have learned or tried to learn to play some sort of instrument? Which instrument did you choose? Why did you want to learn? Why did you stop learning if you gave up?I play a lot of different ones but the piano, drums and guitar are my all time favorite instruments to learn. I am pretty decent with them except guitar and piano are ones that if you dont play for awhile you really get rusty and its frusterating when you pick it up again and cant do what you use to.
Whats some of your musical experience?

I started playing the piano when I was six years old and continued to take lessons on it until I was fourteen years old. I can actually still play the piano pretty well, I might not be able to go up and down the keys like I used to, but I can still play well enough to play some of my sheet music that I still have.
I also started playing the viola when I was nine years old and continued in the school orchestra with that until I was fifteen years old. Then, in college I took it up again for a time with private lessons at school. That, I can still play to a very small degree but not nearly as well as I'd like to.
I still have my viola with hopes that one day either my son or my daughter will decide to play it. Otherwise, it is still a beautiful instrument.

I do not play any instrument but I can sing well.Ilearnt classical music and it was with a very good teacher. Later I also conducted classes. Now all this has stopped due to recurring throat problems. As I have a good voice and vocal is the easiest I chose this.I saw to it thta my son learned how to play the violin and he had a real flair for it.Now with his busy schedule it is all rusting.

Yes, I have. I picked the drums two years ago and wanted to learn how to play them because they're my favorite musical instrument. I did stop recently because I'm moving on to learning some bass guitar now. In fact, just ordered my first bass today...can't wait for it to arrive in here.

Bass is a lot of fun if you havent played guitar before its hell on your hands the first few months so make sure you get light strings and use a pick. I loved playing the drums it was great. Well it stil is lol

Yeah, so I've heard :) I hope to eventually drop the pick shortly after, from what I know even if you're not quite strong enough in your fingers, you'll still feel more loose when playing with withouth the pick. Drums were also harsh in my hands, going as far as to days of bleeding and blisters so it shouldn't be too weird for me ;) Good drumming!

My mom tried to teach me piano years ago. When it didn't take, they threw a guitar in my lap for me to learn. I've been playing the strings...guitar and bass for 15 years now. Trying to learn drums...piano is a little rusty, but I can manage a little bit.

Have fun!

I play saxophone and guitar, and must say sax is a beautiful instrument to play. I was also member of the orchestra in my hometown. But playing guitar is something completely different.

I played guitar for 20 years...gave it up because I lost part of a finger in an oilfield accident.

I attempted to learn the viola in 4th grade. Soon, sadly, I was to discover that instrument playing and spasticity didn't go well together. I only took lessons for four months. It's funny. Most days I'm not sorry I don't walk, but I really wish my arms were capable of more things like drawing or playing an instrument. People always think that's weird, but I don't have any particular attachment to walking for anything I would like to do except jump off a diving board or wear point shoes in a ballet class. Other than that, most of the stuff I want to do is all upper body related. I think this is because I can control my upper body more and, therefore, upper body stuff seems more attainable to me so I miss it.

Well i have tried to play three different instruments and then i found the one that was right for me. I have tried the drums the trumpet and now i play the clarinet. I stopped playing the first two because it just wasn't really rite for me. With the Drums i wanted to do it because i thought the people who played looked pretty cool and it would be easy but it really wasn't so i gave it up. Then i tried the trumpet because it was new but i couldn't seem to grasp that you had to change the pitch with your mouth so i said good bye to that and now im in love with my clarinet.

I used to take piano lessons when I was really little, but my teacher moved away so I stopped. A few years later, I got a program to teach yourself piano, so I did that, and now I am currently teaching myself to read music. So far it is going awesome and I cannot wait to really get good at it.

When I was little, my school let us to study playing the flute. And therefore I learned a little of it and I could play one song with flute. But actually I have no gift in music:) My son is in the kindergarten now and he studies to play the piano. I hope he will learn it because music is important.
