Help! How do you save a wet cell phone? |
|
I was at a poolside party and, as is custom, eventually everyone got thrown into the pool. Unfortunately, a couple of us had our cell phones in our pockets, and now we have a bunch of wet phones - some of which refuse to turn on! I've wiped mine dry and removed the battery - is there anything else I can do to ensure it doesn't break down on me?

| 3. addicted2cola (79) | 3 months ago | Hi there!
A good thing you can do is put it in a desiccant (something that absorbs moisture). The most easily assessable and cheapest option is rice. Put your phone in container with rice, and leave it there overnight or longer (until it's completely dry). Whatever you do, DO NOT USE YOUR HAIRDRYER!! This can damage your phone! I hope it turns out OK for you, good luck!

I have past experiences with wet cellphones (twice) and this was exactly what i did to prevent it from damages! And fortunately, it works! Twice!
And yeah, do believe addicted2cola for the hairdryer - that is definitely right!

5. dhugoi (211) | 3 months ago | That was the right thing to do when you wet your phone, remove the battery, so it will not short circuit, don't ever try to open it while you're not sure if the inside is already dry. If you have a tools, usually majority of phone uses the hex head screw, you can use the hex screw driver to remove it. Completely remove all the casing and anything you can, wash it with lighter fluid or anything similar solution which is quick to dry. And let it dry on the sun light, its better than using hair dryer which can worsen the damage if your not really careful. Once your really sure that all the components are dry, you can screw it back and try to turn it on, if it doesn't its time to bring it to a qualified service technician, or buy a new one.

| twistedties (18) | 3 months ago | Wow, after hearing from both you and addicted2cola, I'm glad I haven't tried using a hairdryer like a friend suggested. I guess it does make sense that the excessive heat might damage the innards of the phone!

dhugoi (211) | 3 months ago | I repair cellphone before but not anymore, if you really make sure that it is completely dry before you try to turn it on, the chances are high. But if you already tried to open it while it's wet then your in trouble.
The tools we use to remove the moisture or part is hotter that hair dryer its hot air soldering, but we uses flux to limit the area.
