Recently we have started trying to save on our energy bills. With winter months not far away and the increase cost of gas heating its a challenge to become more energy efficent without spending a bunch of money to save a few pennies on the bill. What have you tried in your home? Did it help to lower your gas or electric bill?

i've effectively switched to energy saving lightbulbs for every room in my house. My electric company gives us these bulbs for free.

There are a few things that we have already done and a few things that we are in the process of doing to our house to help make our energy bills more affordable. The first thing that we did was replace the windows in our house. This helped immediately in lowering our heating bill. Then we got a new heating and air conditioning system (I actually won this from one of the local heating and air companies). This made a huge difference as well. As far as the things that are cheaper to do, we've changed our lightbulbs to almost all compact fluorescent bulbs. The only exceptions are our bedside lamps. We are also adding insulation into our attics.
