The "tree of life" to me would be (representative of) that life which is lived with unbroken communion with God, unlike the "tree of knowing good and evil" which to me is a result of 'free-will' or rather thinking ability, for when God endowed thinking ability, which includes being able to make choices, a whole new world (or tree) of possibilites 'caqme to be'.. These trees to me, represent the two great paths of Life.. the first- God/life/perfection/paradise and the second- imperfection.. (the result of any choice which is other than what God in His infinite knowing and wisdom chooses)..

It represents God's sovereignty. Adam's and eve's continued happiness depended on their recognizing God's rulership and his right to decide what was good and what was bad. That divine prerogative was represented by a "tree of the knowledge of good and bad". Adam and eve would have demonstrated their subjection to God if they did not eat from the tree, an act of disobedience.
