If you had to chose your favorite books which would they be? Not more than five of your favorites. What ones do you remember maybe from childhood or one you had to read for school? For me i recall Where The Red Fern Grows written by Wilson Rawls. It stands out in my mind because of the storyline ofcourse but also Mr. Rawls came to my school when i was in the fourth grade and there was an assembly. He told about writing the book and even brought his drafts that amounted to a stack of papers nearly as tall as he was. For those of you that don't know the storyline it is about a young boy who buys and trains two redbone coonhounds. It is quite an adventure. Which is your favorite?

My all time favorite would have to be Little Women by Louis May Alcott. I also loved the book collection of Nancy Drew Mystery Series.

myLot reputation of 97/100. celticeagle (4479)   ranked 1 out of 835 in books  2 months ago

Such very popular ones too! My mom read Little Women to me before I was in school. And I can remember going to the library for my next Nancy Drew mystery. Such excitement to get started on her next adventure. I still have a few copies of them in my small library. That is how important they were to me. Thanks.

You were very lucky met the author face to face.:) My favorite authors all were hundreds year old.

Favorite books? uh......too many, most of in Chinese, you know, A DREAM OF RED MANSIONS and A SURROUNDED CITY. In English, my all time favorite book would be PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen. If you ask me how many times I read it? I really don't know. I would like read it anytime and anywhere free time.

hi I am so glad someone else likes Pride and Prejudice I have read that over and over, its better than some other of Jane 'Austen's.

susangarden (9)   ranked 99 out of 835 in books  3 months ago

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife." Eternally immutable. Mr. Pride and Miss Prejudice are always around us.
yeah, I also think that the best one of Jane Austen's.

The book, as is often the case, had alot more detail and I found it even better for this reason.

susangarden (9)   ranked 99 out of 835 in books  3 months ago

Mark! Perhaps someday I'll read it.

I have found that many of my favourite books are books that I read in my childhood. Maybe it's because you have better possibilities to hide away and completely lose yourself in a book when you are a kid. The whole reading experience just becomes magical.

One book in particular that I loved reading is The secret garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

I love reading books, and so picking just five is quite difficult.
the first one would be The End Of Mr.Y, then Artemis Fowl and the Lost Colony.
then there is Pure Dead Magic, and Kiki Strike. other books that I enjoyed were Pop Co and Georgia Nicloson saga.

The first book I remember reading and loving is The Eyes of the Dragon by Stephan King. I got it at the school library when I was in elementary school. It's not his normal "scary" stuff at all. It's a medieval story about kings and knights.

Interesting. I enjoy stories about that time period. Robin Hood and such.

Dragonriders of Pern-Ann McCaffrey
James Herriot's(sp) series All Creatures Great And Small
Gone With the Wind-Margaret Mitchell
The Stand-Stephen King
Little Women-Louisa May Alcott

Yea..I guess those would be the faves. I have tons of books that I love, but I've had to narrow it down cause you were so adamant about it!glare I'm an avid reader and have been since about the 5th grade or so. My brother, and I, would read the encyclopedias. One other, that I loved, was a HUGE volume on Greek and Roman mythology... thumbupso interesting..so romantic...so silly too. Just a fun read!happy

Oh, yes! My daughter loves those Dragonrider books. And All Creatures Great and Small was so good. GWTW is a must read. Have you read the sequel? I want to but haven't yet! And Louisa. Yes! Another that my mom read to me. Me adamant? Hmm! I guess I do need that labotomy after all. I like the mythology too!

Oh my gosh, not more than five? The Lord of the Rings, Witch World by Andre Norton, Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey, Moon Called by Patricia Briggs, The RiddleMaster of Hed by Patricia McKillip pretty much top my list of favorites. Being a bookworm, it's hard to make a choice of my favorites, there are so many!

myLot reputation of 97/100. celticeagle (4479)   ranked 1 out of 835 in books  3 months ago

Good ones. Witch World is a great one! I knew Andre Norton and she wrote me once asking me to help her with advertising a new book. It was fun!

Detective stories of Sherlock Holmes are my all time favourites. The Hound of Baskervills, Solitary Cyclist, Seckle Band, Man with the twisted lip, A Scandal in Bohemia, The Massgrave Rituals still attracts me so much. I have read it when I was 15 still I am reading it in my 35 and will read it when I will be 50. It will never get old to me. Do you have read this books?

myLot reputation of 97/100. celticeagle (4479)   ranked 1 out of 835 in books  3 months ago

The Hounds of The Baskervilles is a great ole classic. I had my mother reading them to me when i was 7 or 8. My mom was a veracious reader and read to me alot when I was a youngster instilling in me my love of books.

myLot reputation of 95/100. think_twice (207)   ranked 161 out of 835 in books  3 months ago

No no. Listening a book & reading a book have much differences. I think you must read the book to get a different experience. In my opinion you must read all other stories of Sherlock Holmes, so that you will learn how enchanting are the stories. Have you read Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple's detective stories?

myLot reputation of 97/100. celticeagle (4479)   ranked 1 out of 835 in books  2 months ago

No, I haven't. But I have seen several on our PBS station. I figure I will never be able to read all the ones I want to so catching afew they have made into movies can't hurt. Teehee Sherlock Holmes was always a favorite of my mothers. I am more into thrillers and historial romances.
