My assistant has the best excuse for getting out of work today.

My assistant called me to say that he had whiplash because some careless young man (who may have been drunk I don't know) ran into the gas station where he works with his car. Normally, I would not have believed such a story but when he told me look on the news I did and there it was. The driver was just standing around looking dumbfounded at the damage to his nice, expensive automobile. I think if my assistant had been five inches to the left he'd be dead or disabled.
I'm sure the driver didn't pay for his car by himself. He looked about 22 or 23. Apparently, he just hit the wrong pedal. Can you imagine calling your mother and saying, "Mom, I totaled the car and nearly killed someone"? I hope his mother is nothing like mine because I wouldn't hear the end of that for about a decade.
My assistant says he'll be back tomorrow to work his shift, but I don't think so so I'm making a back up plan tonight. Have you ever heard of anything like this? What happened to the person who was driving the car? I hope they lose their license at least.

One of my nephews girlfriends ran into a house one time. She didn't have a license and she had two small kids with her. She hit the gas pedal and lost control of her mothers car. The courts took it easy one her and the home owner used (I'm guessing) his home owners insurance to take care of his house. That is someone that shouldn't be able to get a license, but she would probably drive again, anyways.....

Wow!! Praise God he was not anywhere closer to where the Car hit, or he could have been severely injured or killed even. I am sure he is a little shaken up, and hopefully the driver does have to pay a restitution for this just to teach him a lesson as carelessness is expensive especially out there in the Driving world. Hope he has insurance and good at that as it sounds like he is going to need it as well, but glad to hear your assistance thinks he is OK enough to want to be there to help you as well.

That was a good reason. I am glad that he is otherwise ok! I would not have wanted to make that call. Do you not have a backup for today that you could call?
