you just have not enough guidance. I suggest you must get a coach to instuct you with your stroke, stoke is the most integral part in swimming if you learn basic floats then next step is the strokes it took me 2 months to be a fine survival swimmer. thanks to my work swim related.

before i'm afraid to swim, but when my friends and family laugh at me, i was motivated to learn to swim, i'll always put in my mind "if others can swim, why can't i", there are several time i failed but i never stop until i get it, you can go to www.expertvillage.com and search for "how to swim" you will learn a lot there then apply it..

oh, cutepink_13, I think you must have confidence before you try to learn. Though you have not be familar with swimmming since you are a child, but it does not matter. Many people learned swimming after adult, someone may older than 60.
First, you could study basic practices, you can employ a coach or some friend who swims well. as you konw, swimming could be learned step by step, so you just following schedule and practise again and again.
The most important thing you need remember is: one must learn swim in water not on shore.

Personally i think learning to swim is more on the self confidence than the skill itself, build up your comfort level inwater 1st,by all means stay shallow but 1st learn to hold your breath and submerge your head underwater and count to 10 ,you ll be surprised how easy it is,then ,practice floating by holding your breath fully in ur lungs, you ll gain confidence then can slowly learn the swim srokes

Find a teacher or really close friend that will help you with swimming. Teachers are more preferable because they are certified. They know what they're doing and will give you great instructions on how to swim.
It's never too late to learn how to swim. Any age is fine. Don't be embarrased when you see peopel that are much younger than you that can swim. It takes time but you'll eventually get good at it and it will be fun! :)
So, to sum up:
Find a good teacher
Practice, and have fun.
Good luck! :D

I did not learn to swim until I was an adult. I grew up in a town that did not have public swimming pools. The lake was known to have snakes and dangerous undercurrents.
I took swimming lessons several times and the swimming instructor told me I would never be able to swim. Finally, I had a really good friend who knew how to teach that showed me how to dog paddle in about an hour. Most of that time was spent with me getting the hang of the breathing. I then went to a swim school and learned to swim. The swim instructor showed me that I really could not sink to the bottom of the pool. Of course, if I did not breath right I could drown myself by filling my lungs with water.
Don;t give up. If you can, find yourself a good swim instructor.

swimming is not hard for me.and i think the key point is to be brave and make attempts several times.have a try.if you don;t succeed, that's ok and take a rest.later you can have another attempt until you finally learn it .
i hope you can learn it finally .and enjoy swimming every time your friend invite you to .
happy mylotting!

....Hi cutepink_13, I didn't learn to swim until I was older. I went to the YWCA and enrolled in a swimming class. It is good to be in a class where everybody is on the same level. Look for a school, YWCA, or YMCA, which provides swimming lessons. You will be swimming in no time, it is a very good form of exercise as well. Good luck, please report back on your progress. Take care.
