what is the most expensive food in the world?

i was bored and hungry and day dreaming all at the same time. if i have the money, i said to myself, i will eat the most expensive food in the world even just for once. but what is it? do you know? ann

Pound for pound, saffron is probably one of the most expensive foods on the market! It takes a lot of land area to produce small amounts of this spice and it can cost over $5,000 USD a kilogram! Caviar such as Almas is also ridiculously expensive and can cost thousands of dollars for a few hundred grams of it! It comes from a sturgeon fish called "Beluga" and because the fish are usually so old and the caviar is difficult to collect, the prices are extremely high. Truffles can also be very, very expensive and again this is because they're difficult to source. If I had the chance to eat Almas Caviar and Truffles dusted with Saffron, I'd be a happy man!

hi james, i remember when i was in my teenage years i have eaten rice laced with saffron. but i dont remember the name of the dish anymore. it was a spanish dish with rice and sea foods. i have eaten fish roe from some small fish and it tastes good. but i dont know how caviar is prepared. i hope it is better tasting than a fried fish roe. truffles? hehehe. call me ignorant but its fungus isnt it? iwwwwwwwwww! id like to try too. ann

Truffles are a funghi yes. They grow in the ground and have an amazing taste that's very unique! The Spanish dish you ate was more than likely Paella (Pronounced Pie-ay-A)and it's so, so tasty! And caviar IS actually roe, so in some minor ways it would taste similar to the smoked fish roe you've eaten before. I've had smoked fish roe too and it's very strong in flavour because of the smoking of the fish. Caviar is a much more refined taste as it's the eggs taken from the fish directly and then packaged. I hope you get to try it all one day!

I think fish. The fisherman sell and get the fish them self. So they sell it for more to get money out of there hardwork. They sell it for alot for a reason. I think it's worth them selling it for how much they sell it now. It's cool how they fish for it too. ( .

I don't know, but you can pay $197 for a sandwich at the Clivden Hotel near London. Me, I'd settle for a serve of fisn'nchips at the moment, about $10, I guess. Mike.

Hi tigeraunt, If I had the money, I would eat the most expensive sea food with all the trimmings, then I would travel round the world, go to the most expensive reaurant and order the best meal there, nice dreaming, lol!. Tamara
