I think all the change we need for this country, would be to start another party besides the two we have now, the Democrats and Republicans need some good competition, and we the people should have the Citizen party, and should be exercised to be put into law. It should contain someone from any of the States up to 2 candidates from each State, to be able to run for Senators and Presidents. They should be residents who have shown to be good supporters of any organizations who are non-profit and constructive in their own right, someone who will do good for the underdog, the poor, and the deserving. They should show that they gave back to this country even when they received nothing from this country. They should show good leadership skills, and high moral standards, who are against big business having any say in how to run this country. They should have a High School diploma or GED would be even better, and showed that he can get a GED, he would be an example of someone who been there done that experience. Someone who has first hand experience in struggle would be a fine example of human decency. Someone who isn't afraid to take on the Government we have now, that would fight for the people, and not for their governments laws. We need change, and Obama is not it.

As a non-American I will wish you well on this.

Where I now live in Germany (I am not incidentally not a German national and cannot vote in the elections this Sunday), there are five major parties, and all bring something different to the table. Of course you end up with coalitions, and people having to think more, and to compromise more - but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Among the American politicians who is always worth hearing IMO is Jesse Ventura, who took on both Democrats and Republicans in Minnesota, and won. So alternatives are available to you.

excuse the grammatical error - that should read "I am not incidentally a German national" - the second "not" is, of course, incorrect.

Thank you for your response, yes Jesse Ventura is a man with the right ideas, if he can get in the race I'll vote for him.

Hi Judith,

I haven't a clue.

Actually smaller parties have mainly sprung up, but the successful ones unfortunately tend to represent the xenophobic, former Empire Loyalist, wing of the Tory Party more than anything else (UKIP, who are not racist, BNP, who definitely are).

Respect tried to take off with what Labour abandoned, got George Galloway and little else. The Green Party should have made more impact, but they are mainly an alternative to the Lib Dems.

The UK tends much more to lean to the US than to anyone in Europe East or West (you may have gathered by now that I am very pro-Europethumbup, definitely a voice in the wildernesssad, and probably why I am looking at taking out German nationality), though given the results of the Bush-Blair adventure, the special relationship is on hold for the moment.

And as Cameron's natural allies in the US are all Republicans, it is at least a couple of years before it will be back in vogue (this is assuming that the Tories, as expected win next year - if the UK ends up with a coalition, who knows? Nick Griffinangry as Foreign Secretary refusing to shake Obama's hand as the guy's the wrong colour?!).

Tony

well it has worked a bit better up here with weeny parties. the scottish national party (basically lib dems and nothing like the sodding bnp) and the green party and indeed mr incredibly fake tan (i.e. the sort of socialist lot) have been fairly successful.

myLot reputation of 98/100. astonysh (1911)   ranked 525 out of 6,392 in politics  4 months ago

If Cameron and the Tories win the next UK election, Scotland would be recommended to hold an independence referendum (and hopefully have the sense to vote for it).

It would leave England with a permanent Tory majority forever (probably with the UKIP and BNP as the major opposition parties). I am probably too old and unhealthy for this to affect me (and anyway the Germans might let me stay here, job or no job).

whatever your agenda is i would agree with this all the way. i'm from a different country and nearly always vote for a candidate who is not one of the two major ones (don't like either of them} - now at the risk of sticking my nose in and annoying people your country tends to be quoted as what happens when you really have only two influential parties and lets not let this happen here (has happened pretty much but the smaller ones are getting more seats now). [pompous british rabbit now hops off]

We have several other parties...it just seems no one takes them seriously.

You can bet I didn't vote for McCain or Obama...I voted for Nader.

myLot reputation of 76/100. lilwonders456 (1930)   ranked 60 out of 6,392 in politics  4 months ago

I actually like Nader. Kinda a common sense politican in a political world that has forgotten what common sense is. Shame he never went farther than he did.

I voted...not for McCain or Obama....But I voted for Ron Paul. I did not voted for "who I thought was going to win" like a lot of people and for who I thought would do the best job.

myLot reputation of 83/100. jb78000 (1821)   ranked 197 out of 6,392 in politics  4 months ago

don't you find though that if there is one lot you really don't want to get in the inclination is to vote for the most likely opponent rather than somebody who you agree with? did this myself. [ and to excuse this i had only just turned 18.] so did a lot of people and guess what we got. minithatcher.

myLot reputation of 76/100. lilwonders456 (1930)   ranked 60 out of 6,392 in politics  4 months ago

Yes I think alot of people do it.
It is called the "against vote". YOu are not so much voting in favor of the person you are voting for....but against hte person he or she is running against.
Personally I believe in voting for who you think will do the best job.
Have not seen alot of poeple (some but not a lot) that fit that discription coming out of the two major parties in a while.

myLot reputation of 83/100. jb78000 (1821)   ranked 197 out of 6,392 in politics  4 months ago

i agree now. having had a very small part in getting the sodding blair in [oh yes, vote out the tories and then you get the tories basically back in again under a pseudonym] i'm all for giving the smaller parties more representation

There are a lot of great third party options. DO some research. Fine one you like and then get involved ....volunteer... we really do need viable third party options. The reason no one takes them seriously is because the press does not cover them nearly as much as the major two and they do not have the funding that hte major too have.
But the more people that get sick the major two...and lets fact it...both have done enough to make ALOT of us throw our hands up and be done with them both. They deserve for us to turn away from them. If those people explore their third party options they might find what they are looking for. ANd it would take a lot of power away from the big two. Which needs to happen.

First of all, and don't take this the wrong way, but "this country" in an online & international forum is an odd way to start off the post. Most of the people here aren't American (and I assume American because of the Democrat/Republican/Obama/"we the people" comments). It just rubs me as a little self centered to assume that because this is an English forum it must be mainly Americans who are populating it, I'm sorry.

Secondly, what you're asking for isn't a type of political party, it's characteristics you want to see in your country's leader. And on a side note, speaking as someone who's familiar with Obama's stance, he seems like exactly what you're asking for to everyone outside of the US. We see and hear about all the protests, and no one can figure out what so many Americans are so upset about, and I'll give two examples as to what I'm talking about.

1. The main reason why I would never want to live in the States is that there isn't any free public health care. If I break my leg, or get pneumonia, I don't want to worry about where I'm going to get the thousands of dollars to get better. Obama wants to instigate public health care, which will allow people who can't afford to pay for the health care to have an equal chance at being healthy as people with money. Everyone deserves to be able to see a doctor and receive treatment if they need it.

I've heard this referred to as communist, when it's similar to the health care available in Britain, Canada, Australia, and most of Europe. If you still want to pay for your health care, go ahead, but why deny someone the chance to have the same health care options you have because they don't make as much? Or deny their children of that right because of their parents income? No hospital is going to say, no keep your money, we're pulling the plug on your grandma anyways.

2. I recently saw people outraged on the news because Obama left a message for school children on the first day of school, which was basically saying Hey kids, do good in school (I believe it was more literally something along the lines of encouraging the kids to study hard and take responsibility for their success in school and their future careers - in other words, work hard, try and get good grades, and be the best you can be, etc), and parents were going ballistic because they were offended he would say something like this to their children, and that they had little notice, and a lot of parents even kept their kids home on the first day.

I don't understand why this makes people so angry. Encouraging children to work hard and do well in school isn't a bad thing. No one tells their children to go to school, slack off, and worry about doing any homework. We have to wonder if it's really the message that's making people so upset, or is it simply that people don't like him and don't want their children to have to hear anything he has to say?

What I am saying is considered for all Nations to adhere to. I am saying that all the president's that are in office should not be by popular vote. You see Our government id being controlled by billionaires and millionaires around the world, and every country is in the same boat, and it's sinking. The people vote one way and the elite turn things around to their favor, these decisions are slanted as is the media in their pocket. I am talking about the New World order and what it will mean to every human on this planet. This has got to be stopped now or we all will be enslaved by the NWO aka; One World Order, this is as bad as it gets people, one example of this is why Obama got away with not proving he is an American born citizen, which only shows anyone that is in the click of this Government get in and the one we voted for is not. This whole New World Order thing was started in Europe ans the Euro, but this whole plan is from all the blue blood line that leads to Bush's that were in office. And Obama is just a plant to take the attention of the real takeover plan, the New World Order, aka; ONE WORLD ORDER. Once this is established there will be no equality for anyone, we will all be their slaves under one authority. So the real issue here is US against Them. The People of the world and the New World Order, in which will have full control of the food and therefore the control of all the people. This will be done by the United Nations,Rome,United States,Britten, world Bank, and the Federal Reserve. They will destroy the US currency to have no worth whatsoever, so they can start all over the world with their One World Currency that only they will control, and the whole world will be flat broke, and will have to play the game to have anything to eat. Look at Africa and Angola, and other places where thousands die of starvation, because their government is controlling the currency. This is the plan of all the biggest country's in the world to take control of the smaller country's and peoples, to be their slaves just to have the option to eat, enough for one day at a time.

I definetly agree. I have become rather sick of both parties to be honest. Both have become so absorbed with what the other is doing they have completely ignored the wishes of the ctizens. Politics and the two political parties have only themselves on their minds, as long as they get to continue slandering each other and making money at it, they are fine. I feel like its time to put people in the office who actually care about the people who put them there not just getting more and more of our money.
