if a friend likes you, but the feeling is not mutual, what would you do?

If a friend tells you that he/she likes you, but you don't feel the same? how would you handle the situation?

get the message clear and understood. The only thing more awkward than a situation like this is leading on the person by accident because you haven't made yourself clear enough. I suggest taking a calm easy approach but letting that person know exactly how you feel about them so there is no misunderstanding. I have been in a situation like this myself. I didn't make myself clear enough and now the friendship is really severed.

Thanks for the advice. And your right, our fear of hurting the other by not being upfront can the cause of losing a friend.

It happened to me once. I told him that I didn't have the same feeling.. The bad part was I went away from him and we lost contact for 4 years... But now we're friends anymore.. Maybe it's because we alread have our own lover..

hi ybong007 well I think you mean by like something more like in boyfriend, girlfriend, and in that case if I was' young, which I am not,I would make it clear that I can not be this person's girlfriend but I maybe a friend if that counts. as an elderly woman here at Gold Crest I hav several men and women friends here, not romantically just good friends there is a whole lot of difference in romantic friends and just good friends.
